I just purchased a 24g nano cube. I currently have a 75g reef tank so I can get my water from it to speed up cycling. The nano I got has a place for bio balls and the pump all hidden and built into the back. The lights look to be 50/50's with one set not working. Can anyone get me headed into the right direction on getting this going correctly? What lights would you reccomend? The lights are built into the hood.I need to purchase one set and should probably change the other to have both new. Where is the best place to get good nano lights? The ballast that runs the lights currently is 36w 110v/60Hz. I do not know if this nano is going to be for sea horses or a reef. Please help.Any info would be greatly helpful.Thank

- Usually your LFS and/or online retailers will carry new Nanocube ballasts. Simply replace the ballast (possibly only the bulb).

If its going to be a reef tank i'd look into a 70 to 150w Metal Halide setup. Also look into turning your back filtration into a nano-refugium.

Theres alot of online stores that carry bulbs and ballasts if you need one. Just google what kind of bulb it is. I take it you got this used?
I really don't think you need a halide on such a small tank unless you wanna keep clams or some higher light sps.
I don't think using just water from a tank helps with the cycle much either if any. You need live rock thats cured so it already has the good bacteria in it and not any die off.
I started my 12 gal aquapod with all live rock and sand from my 150 and it never cycled at all. You have to have enough rock though and it could still do a small cycle. Test it to be sure.
You might wanna start with rock and sand from your 75 and replace that tank with some new rock.
You need about 25 lbs though which is quite a bit.

Alot of people ditch the sponge in the first chamber I kept mine but rinse it good every week with my old water from a water change. My tank is only 2 months old but 0 nitrates so far so I'll see how it does.
I only run chemi-pure in the back and have my heater back there.
I don't use the media that came with it or bio balls.
I also put a hydorflo on mine for better circulation.

The bulbs should say on them what they are. I would just replace them and see if they work.
If you decide seahorses do alot of research first as they arent easy to keep. Too bad cuz we all love them.
This is my tank at 6 weeks. Most of the corals came from my 55 gallon and I kept testing to be sure it wasnt going to cycle.
I just added a few frags every few days after it showed no sign of cycling after 2 weeks.

Kass is right on.

I tossed the sponge though and started using filter floss. I thought I never could get all the gunk out of the sponge and if you dont clean it good enough it will give off nitrates.

I've heard of people cutting the sponge in half, easier to use and clean.

Nice Tank Kass, how do you keep the glass so clean, it looks like the rock is right against it?

No the rocks arent against the glass at all.
I tried to make sure my magnet cleaner could go on all the glass when doing the rocks. Leaving like 2 inches on each side.
They are against the back wall though which is plastic. I can't get them to stay otherwise.
I just use the small magfloat on the glass with alot of elbow grease lol. The corners are harder to get to because of that bend.

Thanks for the compliment I really love that little tank. I got it free thanks to Current and Doc Fosters for being a frag trader at the coral conference. We all got one which was really cool.
