Just started a new tank!!

Hey guys I just started a new tank. Its a 3 gallon with 9 watt power compacts. I plan on putting a mushroom or two and some Zoas in my tank not sure what else. Any suggestions or important things i should know for my new reef tank? all are helpful. thanks

Welcome to the hobby. Do you by chance have the JBJ Picotope? I have a picotope that has been setup for a few months and so far so good. Mine came with the light, filter and tank. In my opinoin the filter is crap. The light works well for what you are looking to put in the tank. I have some zoo's, mushrooms, Blasto's and a sexy shrimp in it so far and the light is working great for them. I had an old skilter filter sitting around so I put it on the back and it fit perfect. I then placed a little chaeto in the filter and it worked great as a fuge. I do a once weekly water change of about a 32oz cup. I try to only pour about a quater of it in at a time so that i do not create any temp issues or anything. I would highly recommend changing the water once a week. I went three weeks when I was moving without changing the water and the corals started to close up and not look healthy. So keep up with the water changes. You can try to keep some fish in there but I choose not to so it would keep the amount of waste to a minimum. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will help as much as I can.
