Just throwing it out there

NO3 is steady at 7. I really want it at 5 or below. I will add my last 1/4 or 250ml tomorrow. They are soaking tonight. My skimmate is thick now. All three of them are pouring out a thick foam that stays in the cup. It is trying to lift the top. It is not as dark as before but lots of it.

This is good news. I am fixing to set-up a 45G NPS and was thinking of using pellets since I have no room for a fuge.

So you have not seen any harmful effects of the NPS corals?

Today NO3 is steady at 7, but my PH has again dropped to 7.94. If we follow the pattern then the PH should start climbing back up later today and my NO3 should fall to the 2 to 3 range. I thought it would go faster and I might not see the PH drop because the majority of the pellets (75%) were colonized already. Guess I was wrong, the time frame seems to be the same.

Hi there

i am olso jusing bio pellets in my tank..but i have the feeling that some of my corals have problems with them,i mean that sinds the pellets are working the have trouble coming out.whats your opinion about this?

(sorry for the crappy english ,im from the netherlands)

greetings carlo

I don't know, I have a very mixed tank and I have not experienced any issues what-so-ever. Are you going slow and what kind of pellets are you using. There seems to be these ones not made for aquariums that people are having trouble with.

Don, which version were you using again? I believe you mentioned Pro, is that Vertex or a different brand? For me, it is Warner's (which is a brand I personally trust ;)). Each week or so it looks like more companies are joining the ranks of offering pellets for the concept of "solid vodka dosing" but Gresh made a great point. I wonder what the actual ratio of companies designing a product for our intended use is versus companies relabeling products to just jump on the bandwagon.

Ok guys, I'm getting into this too now. I just got the Vertex Pro pellets and I'm going to get a phosban reactor rated up to 150 gallon tank. It's a little over kill for my 29g biocube but with less pellets it should work. It will be interesting though to see if it actually DOES work on a much smaller aquarium than intended.

Today my NO3 is 2. So in basically 10 days I have gone from 25 to 2. My Phosphates are at .25 ppm. A couple of notes about the phosphates. I know the test is not accurate. It is suppose to measure total phosphates. I have never tested my phosphates before so I dont know if this is good or not. I have always felt the tests were inaccurate and found it better to just assume they were high. I only measured now because I am curious if they will also go down.

Another point about the pellets. My water is way clearer than before, Even though I never thought it was cloudy or anything. In addition I have not cleaned my glass in 4 days. I used to have to clean it every day.

I love these pellets! They seem to be the answer to a prayer for anyone feeding heavy or trying to keep azoox corals.

Started my reactor 3 days ago and noticed same thing. Water became very clear. I will be checking my no3 and po4 levels tomorrow

hi

I'am using pellets made for aquariums that can't be the problem.

i olso have a little bacteria-bloom ,is there a possebility that the corals have some issues with this????????

i already removed some pellets to put a hold on the bacteria-bloom.

Hello Carlo,

What brand of pellets are you using?

How much pellets are you using?

What size tank are they on?

How long have they been set up for?

How are they set up?
1. Type of reactor are they in?
2. How many gallons or liters per hour are going through the reactor?
3. Is the return line coming off of the reactor feeding into the protein skimmer intake or into a different location.
4. How do the pellets visually look in the reactor? Do they look like they are boiling or sticking together?

I am not a biologist nor play one on the forums ;) also have not had anything to drink either. To my understanding the concern is when there is a severe bloom and the aerobic heterotrophs consume too much oxygen in the aquarium.

Also, if pellets remove NO3 and PO4 fast enough, your corals may react to fast water quality change. Just a thought:rolleyes:

2:i'am using 75 gram at mine near 200 liter tank(gl?;))

3: the are now set up for a week.

4:the are in a phosphatefilter with a Eheim compact 300 at full power.

5:the filter is standing in the compartment befor the skimmer.

6:and the are boiling like hell;) can this be to muts ?

thanks!

but it's a start.

think i'am gone do i little waterchange tonight

I have been using them on my nps tank (just a little) for more than two months, almost from day one. Just to help deal with extra feeding. Just added some more last week. NO3 was 1 or less PO4 was .o4 up from .o2 (haven't tested in awhile) not bad at all but having a bit of algae in sps tank, thats why I added some more pellets. I've heard that some have had problems using them, never heard what kind of problems & haven't had any issues at all with them.

Carlo I believe the NP Pellets are the ones that are distributed in the Netherlands (they are Netherlands based, D. van Houten)

You tank is close to the same volume as mine. If my math is correct you tank is almost 53 US gallons. I usually don't like to compare grams to ml but in this case (hopefully I don't put my foot in my mouth) they are most likely equal ;) I don't remember packaging ever being sold in gram weight. That being said, using 75ml of pellets is a good starting point for that size aquarium. I would turn back the flow going into the reactor and have the pellets turn over slower. Nice, slow, tumble. When you noticed the bloom, how high were your nitrates initially? As the bloom has been clearing, what are your nitrates testing at now? Is there a difference since the initial setup? Each time you plan on increasing pellets, test your nitrates and phosphates. Also, try and not to do a water change prior to testing ;) You want to see how well the pellets are working by themselves before you continue to fine tune the setup.

My NO3 is not below 2 and my Phosphates are barely measurable. Needless to say I am a fan. I have increase my feedings and reduced the amount of water i change. These pellets should be the product of the year. They might just be the most important link in keeping a successful Azoox tank.
