This is a 24G tank that I modded to include an overflow and a fuge compartment in the back for a total volume of ~35G. Still need to add a sump and do the overflow and return plumbing. But right now, it's been up and running for about a month now. All LS and LR came from an established system so there wasn't really a cycle. Enjoy the pix and all critiques and comments are welcomed. Thanks.

Thanks Steve.

This system still needs a lot of work. I have to finish the canopy with the 5 T5 HO's, which will make the tank inhabitants really pop. The current lighting is just 130W of PC.

The tank basically holds all my left over corals and frags from my home tank. The plan is to eventually make it a mixed reef with SPS, LPS, and some softies.

Back compartments attached to the tank and painted a flat black

View of the rear compartments. The fuge is fed via an MJ600. The return on the left is connected to an MJ1200 sitting inside the overflow. Once the sump is done, the sump return will be an Iwaki WMD20rlxt on the right side of the tank. That should be enough water movement for a mixed reef.

Thanks wsun. I hope to have the canopy done in a couple of weeks. Just need a few more parts for the T5 retrofit. Can't wait to see how everything will turn out with some nice lighting :D

that was a DIY?!!?? that's prob better than most commercial tanks i've seen! LOL. Great job!

Well, not all of it is DIY :o but thanks anyway :p

The tank is a used one that I got as part of a package where I wanted some equipment. Didn't know what to do with it until I decided to set up another tank. Everything else is DIY tho, from the add-on rear chambers to cutting the teeth on the old tank, the stand, the soon to be canopy, the sump will be my old 20G that I'll cut off the top and add baffles to, etc.

It's always fun making your own stuff, not so much to save $$$, but to make it exactly the way you want, which sometimes isn't exactly cheaper.

hey pookstreet, i want to do the same mod for a 50 gallon breeder (36x18x 18) the same way you did for your tank except of adding an additional backchamber i would add liek a baffle to make the back chamber. how will i do this and where can i get the acrylic or needed glass from. i want to be able to have a skimmer in the first section and a fuge in the other. i will really appreciate this if you can help me figure it out because looking at this thread has given me this idea. thank you

thefuture,

I am not really familiar with what a breeder looks like. Is it glass or acrylic? If you can take a pic of the section you wanted to mod, that would help a lot. HD has acrylic up to 1/8" but I am not sure if that's thick enough for what you need. Depending on where you live, there are plastics shops that sell acrylic scrap pieces in varying thicknesses. More info is needed, such as height and width of baffles or baffles.

o ok. well i actually dont have the tank yet. lol just making out plans. i will let you know if i actually get the tank so you can help me out
