oh... man... that bites! did yo ever test for voltage?

did you clean the new reactor before adding it? think it was the reactor or the carbon?

i'm pretty anal about adding anything any more. i vinegar bath and rinse everything.

any way to test to make pinpoint?

Yes I tested voltage, yes I cleaned the reactor before starting it back up. As for whether it was the carbon or the reactor I cannot say for sure.

Literally blown away by the pics of your tank. Blue haddoni is gorgeous.

Hope everything is back in and healthy as ever very soon

Dang man that's terrible. It's almost always going to be your fault when it comes to a product unless you can prove it unequivocally and that's basically impossible because there is so many variables that it could have been or not have been. Are you going to reuse the reactor? A few locals in my reef club are running those new ones also but I haven't heard of any bad press on them. I'll stick to my passive bag in my sump =).

Glad you managed to save all the nems and catch it so fast, at least it didn't happen when you were on vacation though..

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

UPDATE: Ariel from Blue Life USA called me today, they did testing on their units yesterday and found out they sent me untreated carbon which caused my pH levels to spike rapidly out of control. I never caught this when the crash happened due to the fact the night it happened I didn't think that could even be a thing from plugging up a carbon reactor. The next day I was too busy rushing my remaining livestock to my LFS to save what was left and then when I got home I did a huge water change on my system thinking it was some kind of chemical residue or something.

Well, Ariel from Blue Life USA said she is going to LA in a couple/few weeks and she will be hand picking me all new corals from a list I send her at one or two wholesalers. My tank is still going through a cycle right now but hopefully it will be ready by then. I will keep you all posted on the outcome and possibly even pictures of what comes in.

That is some really scary stuff. Do you have a controller with PH alarm? May be a good investment going forward.

How are the nems?

I do not have a controller, it is something I will be getting though asap. I've always reefed on a budget and tried to keep it simple. It's stuff like this that make you think it's not really possible if you go past leathers and fowlr.

Yeah, controllers give you great peace of mind. With the new models, you can check on pretty much anything from anywhere in the world with internet access.

I am so sorry that this happened to you.
Which of your anemones survived this disaster?

They are at my LFS right now, last I heard 2 Ritteris, 2 Haddonis, 1 Gigantea and 1 LTA are ok. I do not know if any are going through a deflation/inflation cycle though. I will be checking up on them tomorrow.

The pink LTA?
The Blue and the Green Haddoni?

Yeah,

This is what my bleached Gig turned into, not fully sure if the coloration is 100% done though.

I hope those beautiful anemones will do well

Thanks Minh and everyone, I appreciate it. Hopefully I can get my parameters back in check soon so I can take my anemones off my LFS's hands, it's awesome he is holding them but sadly he doesn't have the proper setup for long term. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to speed up this process I would appreciate it.

Would using a 29g to place all the nems in be a bad idea? Using new sw every water change as my system is not stable. Also with such tight space I wonder how often water changes would be needed. I could setup my 10g HT as well, but I was going to keep that separate so I have a spot to treat if any are sick.

If you have not done so, do one or two 100% water change. This will settle things down. If seem like you got the problem taken care off before so much died that cause ammonia spike. The bacterial and fauna are resistant and should recover quickly.

So my tank has everything still alive back in it minus 3 anemones going through treatment. I also have a tiny diatom bloom going on, but besides that everything seems fine.

Here are the 3 going through treatment, hopefully they make it...

While my tank was down I made some Anemone Guards, they work but maybe not the most appealing to the eye. But I can sleep better knowing that if they let go, I don't need to be there the second it happens.
