Juwel Lido 200 - really reef tank ready all in one? Really Really?

So I was out looking to get back in the hobby after 12 years, previously had 150 with all the fixens when things were all metal halide and chillers and what not.

The tank caught my eye was the Juwel Lido 200, guy at the store who is a long time tank dude, since the 80's swore up and down that this tank with a small built in space in the back for filtering and a pump, and included LED lights were enough to grow excellent LPS heavy tank as long as I didn't toss a bunch of Tangs in too and kept the fish bio load down. Said I could drop in a small skimmer that sticks magnetically to the glass and I'd be set as-is.

So am I going to end up needing to drill this thing to do anything?
Is the lighting really enough?
Filtration box in the back corner with in tank drop in skimmer enough?

Here's a link to the specs:
The lighting is:

MultiLuxLED / Lighting

Brilliant luminosity and excellent plant growth are what you get with the state-of-the-art Multilux LED lighting technology from JUWEL. The replaceable 590 mm DAY and NATURE LED tubes create an optimum light spectrum, while saving up to 50% of energy in comparison to T5 at the same time.

The MultiLux LED lighting system for the LIDO 200 LED means that you can work on your aquarium in comfort, even when the lighting is switched on.

Bioflow M / Filter System

For optimum filtering, the LIDO 200 LED is fitted with a high-performance Bioflow M. This internal filter combines efficiency with safety and forms the centrepiece of any JUWEL aquarium. It works on the principle that "The water should stay in the aquarium!" and is the safest way of filtering an aquarium. The Bioflow M comes fitted with five high-performance filter media and a quiet yet powerful Eccoflow 600 circulation pump.

Welcome back. I’ve never heard of that brand before and I’m still learning LED as I only just recently converted from MH. Looks interesting.

Juwel was a high end tank in the 80's. My lfs carried them. Definitely well made with amazing silicone seals and polished edges compared to anything else at the time. That system is pretty geared to freshwater though. Have you looked at any marine focused brands to compare? Innovative Marine, Cade, Red Sea, etc.?

80s? Wow!!!! Never heard of them but, maybe they weren’t prevalent in the US back then.

They are definitely Euro market primarily, but before Big Al's was Big Al's, it was just called Aquarium Services and they carried All Glass for their standard tanks and Juwel for their high end.

I haven't seen anything advertised as comparable to the price point for a starfire glass and includes stand and cover plus LEDs - $900 Quality wise they are pretty amazing from my research, and has warranty, German engineered baby!

Is there a cubish type tank like this that is all-one that more reef geared in that price range that isn't cheap garbage?

Cool, hobby history I didn’t know about. Thanks, Sean👍

Sounds good, I say go for it.

I don't see anything in the ad that would indicate it is reef ready. There is no indication of the wattage of the lights or the flow through the filter area.
It is 25 inches high so the light will need some punch.

It actually says it is suited to be a seawater aquarium.

It says this for the lighting: 590mm MultiLux LED (Day/Nature tubes).

The capacity of the filter pump is designed for twice or 3 times the throughput per hour (e. g. Rio 180 = 180 litres at 600 l/h pump capacity).

@oreo57 could probably give a more detailed explanation on the spectrum but most reef lighting nowadays leans more into the bluer spectrum (450/470nm range) with controllability to add white/red/green as needed whereas the 590 is much more of a whiter spectrum. The key here I think is going to be controlability, if any. If it’s just an on/off LED, with no other controlability, without knowing more details, it “may” work but the nice bright/flourescent colors you see in many tanks will likely be missing in that tank.

Good find. 14w is way low.

Yeah y'all - clearly this is not gonna work. Tank shape and stand are perfect, but not the mechanics, would need to drill and run it refugium under the stand. I'm too old to do this myself anymore.

Can anyone recommend a setup that would be as close to this one that is reef ready?

So you want to stay in the 50 gallon range, with modern esthetics, preferring a sump to AIO, with reef lighting, essentially turn key? Your budget is likely going to have to double (you were going to have to invest in lighting anyway), but as long as we know your goals then people can make suggestions.

Yes, I am ok with up to around $2k, don't want to handicap myself from the get go and end up needing to upgrade the first 90 days.

If you want to stick with all in one, I’d consider the Innovative Marine Fusion Pro 2 40

If you have time, they typically run better sales than the 10% currently but it all depends.

At current sale price it’ll leave you with roughly $500 or so for lighting an other equipment. There’s plenty of decent “off brand” lighting sitting well below this range such as Smat Farm, Noopsyche and NiCrew Reef.

If your wanting a sump design, there’s the IM Nuvo 50 INT

This is at the top of your budget with no room for lighting or other equipment.

There are plenty of other brands such as Red Sea (not recommended due to leak issues), Waterbox (has had recent customer service issues with some orders from Black Friday 2025 still not shipped), Cade, Pro Clear (@griss got his used), etc. Perhaps your LFS could order Aquarium Masters or Planet Aquarium tanks. Both offer reef ready and will likely be cheaper than IM (though I could be wrong).

Your other option could be looking for a quality used tank from a local reefer. There should be plenty coming out soon as people prepare for summer (usually when our hobby sees a decent exodus).

Thank you for those.

My LFS is saying to get a Pro Clear 60 or Pro Clear 90 instead because it's predrilled with refugium under that comes with it, which is what I originally wanted anyways. ProStar Rimless V2 60 Aquarium w/ WHITE Stand - Pro Clear Aquatic Systems

Haven't deal with lighting since t5/metal halide days.

I would like to have a cover for this and put lights I won't need to upgrade for a few years -

I bought a used Pro Clear ProStar 200 v2. A couple of things to keep in mind.

Positives
The tank is beautiful and well built.
The stand is nice.

Negatives
The plumbing is metric. So, I you want to change anything, you’ll either need to buy metric parts or metric to standard unions.

The sump is weird, best way I can describe it. I decided not to use it and plumbed an eShopps sump through the wall into my fish room. Also, I’ve read (no experience) the ATO unreliable.

Bottom line, would I buy another ProStar? Probably.

Thanks for the feedback. Couple questions:

ATO is unreliable as in it doesn't do a good top off job, or it sticks open and kills your tank?
What did you need to change on it that you to deal with buying the metric to standard unions? I planned on dropping in a couple power heads and didn't think I would need to change out the return flow line.
