Kalkwasser Dispenser Impact Time

We have a 150 gallon reef tank.

Just put in a topoff/Kalkwasser system yesterday using a 5074 dispenser and 3155 osmoliator. We added 4 teaspoons of the Kalkwasser powder as instructed. It will dispense 2-3 gallons per day based on our previous topoff routine.

How soon should we see any impact on pH and Calcium? Our pH currently runs between 7.9-8.2 (give or take), and our Calcium is currently about 300 ppm.

Thanks

Milky Topoff Water

Milky Topoff Water

Our topoff container water is milky. The aquarium, sump and refugium are all fine. We did wait 15 minutes between adding Kalkwasser and starting the Osmilator. The dispenser is vertical.

Any ideas? Is this normal?

Did you loop the feed line up to the top with the zip tie and install the check valve in the out flow to the tank? That is not normal and kalkwasser will harm the pump.

Arrggghhh!!! Missed that step! (zip line part) Will correct now, empty tank and refill with clean RO water. Since pump probably was contaminated with kalwasser water, will just letting it run in the clean water take care of that or is there some other step I need to take at this point?

My wife wrote the previous entry. This is her husband.

Unless I misunderstood:

  • Instructions said to put the check valve between the pump and kalkwasser chamber, notinf the flow director on the valve. I assumed the flow director was the triangle as I didn't see any arrow.
  • I didn't see anything written about looping the feed line, although the picture showed it elevated.

Check valve is inserted correctly, I checked it (wife here). Zip line was not installed, I did that. Just waiting on word on how to clean pump if necessary before restarting anything.
