Kar's 55g Red Sea Reef Thread

Looks like the tank is going to be delayed even longer. :( I'm buying some new fishing tackle which is going to drain most of my money and right now I'm not carrying $ bags around with me. Or I may just skip this tank together and wait for a bigger one.

Very little action on this thread but I'll still let y' know whats happening incase there are any lurkers out there at all.

Being to the Red Sea made me decide that I cannot continue putting this off any longer, I need a tank ASAP! So, I am going to get a 29g and sell the 55g. I think I am going to follow Evans tank the most because it is one of the best 29g tanks I have seen. I may even follow the prop tank idea but only time will tell.

well come back reef buddy----how was the trip---any pics

It was great! I was getting a bit annoyed when snorkeling though with people on lilo's, people touching the corals and then people feeding the fish - Sure it attracts them but its not really the right way to do it IMO. And then the thing that really got me was some guy brought a dog puffer out of the water! I was going to grab it off of him but he turned around and it swam out of his hands so he decides to swim after it luckily it when into a crevice in the rockwork. Not much chance of its survival now though I suppose. Anyway, here are some pics http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1432048

I dont have any of the reefs yet because I need to organize them and photoshop them. It will probably be tomorrow night or friday when I get them uploaded because tomorrow I am at the British Open from 4am till 9:30pm. Got back at 4am this morning and then I've gotta leave tomorrow at 4am :). I didn't get too many pictures of Tangs but I got a few I was suprise to see only 1 female Naso out of about 20. And there were Sohals and Purples everywhere! I saw 4 blue spotted rays and 1 of which had no barb. Really was great.

Thanks for the recap--I agree with you that it is terrible the way the uneducated people treat the reef and its inhabitants and the general lack of respect for living creatures on this planet
This is something I always tried to address in my teaching by encoraging the keeping of animals and aquaria in the classroom and making sure the students took care of them :)

Yeah, Even when the diving instructor walked past and said "please dont feed the fish" they waited till he had gone and simply carried on. Its nice to see other sharing there knowledge especially to younger children such as the way you do with your grandchildren. IMO, the public aquariums help to. I know that The Deep which is about 1 hour away from where I live allow school visits and they organize other events where people can come along and learn about the fish and I think they even have a touch center but I haven't been in years so things may have changed. Its a very good thing to pass on because it teaches respect for the ocean and all its creatures.
