Kaserpick's Nano

Cool. I'm trying to decide what combo I'm going to use. I have been looking at reefgeeks website, but can't find some of the bulbs you mentioned.

Yeah, I didn't buy the Reef Science bulb through Reef Geek. That was a bulb I just wanted to try out. The other bulb, that I usually use, is the ATI Aquablue Special (12k). The Reef Science bulb is just a tad bit bluer, but they're both great bulbs. Another option, that I might go back to, is this:

ATI Blue+
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue+

This will definitely give you a nice 20k look. You lose a little PAR from switching the Aquablue out for the Fiji Purple, but the growth is still great.

K. I've going to be ordering them soon. I'm like you, I can't wait to get this thing up and running, but man is it draining the bank account! By the way, how wide should I make the overflow box if I'm using a 2 inch drain pipe?

How big of a tank is your 2 inch drain going on?

Ok. You will still only push one inch's worth of water through your pipe which is somewhere around a max of 660 gallons per hour.

If you add in unions and valves in the 2 inch size they add up.

I understand wanting to ensure no issues but you can drain enough water with a 1 inch pipe plus it may make the overflow line noisy with the air.

This is an interesting tank, i really like the look of these small rimless cubes, ive been thinking about doing one myself but i wouldnt be considered a nano. ill be following this build

by the way, always good to see someone remain in this forum, i remember seeing your name around this nano forum for awhile now

He's actually using this as a trick to reduce drainage noise. The 2 inch piece of PVC is inside the box, not under the tank. It's kind of confusing. :p

Anyway, Jack, that trick works well at the store, but there's quite a bit of ambient noise there. When you try that in your room (where it's much quieter than the store) it's not going to be as quiet as it seems. I'd recommend sticking with a Durso-type system (http://www.dursostandpipes.com/) or a Stockman stand pipe (google to find out some info). The second is a more compact system.

That being said, I think you should build the drain system you want, first. Then you know how much room you actually need.

That is one neat Nano - congrats (looking forward to seeing it develop)

Thanks Michael! :) I hope I don't disappoint with the development!

Thanks you very much. :) I've done the larger tanks, but my passion just keeps drawing me back to the nano's.

Kasey,

Ok that makes sense. Glad someone else had an answer as well.

Sorry to hijack but you weren't posting and we could not let this thing get to page 2 yet.

Definitely a great stand! thanks for the idea. And your nano is lookin pretty awesome. I can't wait to have mine up and running. Maybe we can see each other in a future nTOTM. :)

Thanks! I'm really loving your idea for that 11.5; that'll be an awesome custom AIO system!

You never know... :D

Thanks for following along! Everything tests out very well, so it might be time for some corals. :p

Things to do:
1. Build a replacement light hanger
2. Hide the wires

Great choice on the light! and you're way ahead of me. I'm working on a college budget, lol so my build is nice and slow :)

Thanks. :) I definitely know how that is! I had a 30 breeder AOI setup when I was in the dorms. I still miss that tank and the simplicity of it. :)
