my idea is to get a few different "looks" during the day. this would be after lights out...maybe moonlights, or if that deters from this look, then the moonlights will go on a dimmer....photos don't capture this well...but if you have ever been to Carlsbad or Howe Caverns or any caverns (there is one in Missouri that is AWESOME), it reminds me of that.

Wow - this is coming together so quickly! We'll all be out for the unveiling party before you know it :)
The underlighting is cool - are you going to go BB then?

thanks, Lizz. I've got some sand in the back, so it makes the front bare glass look like a pools of water, and the rocks are reflecting off of the glass, so with the colored lights, it really does look like some of the caverns i visited as a child. I think once the hood is built and I mount the moonlights, the nighttime effect should be what i am looking for...gotta tell ya, for messing around with christmas lights because i was bored? led to a rock stack and a very cool effect.

the artist in you shines bright :)

have not seen anyone add lights under the tank, this should be interesting :)
kudos for something new :D

thanks guys. Steve, i don't think it's bright enough to do any damage...but i'm willing to try it...because it looks so darn cool.

You'll have to keep the bottom scraped, but it is kinda interesting. With white sand there is tons of light underneath corals, it's all good!

I have a nifty little scraper that I fashioned after seeing Eileen's. (Thanks, Eileen!) We'll see how it goes. Pics just don't do it justice.

a few more pieces of rock, a slight readjustment of the christmas lights...picked up some more rock....will be playing with this again to get the look that just shines 'ME'.

hood design (one side finished...too shy to post pics of that yet until i'm done rounding the corners of the wood)

i wanted something functional for the living room. the two cubbies up top are bookcases...which i will be wiring low light halogen spots into to display some art, a memory or two...and...well...some really old antique books from my grandmother. possibly mirrors in the back..but will be thinking on that...sometimes, less is more.

there is a door on the left side to be able to get into the overflow...fans on each side (you can see placement of one). both doors in front will open to be able to get inside the tank.

taking my time...enjoying every minute of it.
