I have had people take my buckets before and do things they shouldn't with them. I once had a cleaning lady use one to mop the floor. I noticed a funny smell when I was walking back with it.
I now keep them in my brute can with "Do not use" all over them. I have also moved them so they are not easy to find.
Catalytic carbon is more effective at breaking the bond in chloramine molecules and cation resin is more effective at removing ammonium. Typically the ammonia in RO water is in the form of ammonium which is a cation and cation specific DI resin will last longer than a standard mixed bed cation/anion combined resin.
