Hiya

Ive can't keep colour in these corals..they my fave Acropora but its always seems to lose the pink....

I can keep good colour on other Acroporas under my 150 watt 20k Metal Halide which is supplemented by 2 24 watt T5s...

I just don't know where im going wrong..im tempted to try very one close to the water surface and see what happens

Thanks your opinions will be much appreciated

my experience w/ a. abrat's is similar .... and i do think they like very high flow water and the most light exposure possible (if memory serves, they are a shallow reef crest coral)

Most cultured ones are not shallow (the plugs have very little algae on them). I would say flow is a more important factor with this coral. Just my experience.

Cultured ones are from shallow areas. They grow all the maricultured acros in shallow areas. Typically you need to really blast the maricultured corals with light to hold their colors. I talking about 400w mh a few inches under the water surface.

I beg to differ. In Fiji, the maricultured acros are grown in about 25 feet of water. Indo maricultured range from 5 to 25 feet...I guess it depends on your definition of shallow :) I have one half way under 250 20k which is hardly blasting it and it has never lost it's color. Flow seems to be more of an issue as many of the stags found in the wild are more sensitive to flow changes.

All maricultured abros right now are coming from indo (bali) not fiji. From what I've been told the water is crystal clear. Doesn't really mater how deep they are really coming from.

I never said the abros were coming out of Fiji. Your comment was that all maricultured corals are grown in shallow waters which is not the case at all. Fiji was used as an example. Again, I have had success with the Bali abros with standard lighting, but more flow.

Elliott89 - with your lighting, you might have to have it near the top, but I would be more focused on providing the proper flow for the coral.
