Keeping my new open brain (?) healthy

Top right, sorry it's a wretched photo. Bright yellow and white. I was told to put it on rocks under strong light, which I did, up near the top.

It has shrunk some and seems to be contracted. After doing some homework it looks like it is in exactly the wrong place and ought to be in the substrate.

Given that it is stressed, should I move it down progressively and just put it in the sand and get it over with?

(This was also a Father's Day present so it's special )

I would put it directly on the sand. Keeping it up in the light will stress it more and it seems to me to already be fairly bleached. Seeing if it will accept food which will help get it healthy again as well I feed my lps about once a week.

drop it stait down, It should rscover. what sort of lights you running

My experience with these corals is they like low light and flow. Higher light will wash out the color.

low light, on the sand bed is fine. slow low-med flow is good. High light always bleach this coral, I would also feed meaty food to it at night when its feeding tectacles are out.

I had to open brains for several years. They always liked low light and low flow and a place in the sand with enough room to fully expand. Although I have not fed them in a long time they look better when I did.
