keeping non reef fish in a reef tank

Reef Safe?

I currently have a pair of Bandit Angels in my reef, and will be adding a conspic angel, and a few other angels and butterflies in the next few months.

I have kept the following fish in the past in my reef tanks:
Blueface Angel
Blue Striped Angel
Regal Angel
Flame Angel
Potters Angel
Colin's Angel
Mitratus Butterfly
Brazilian Longnose Butterfly
and a few others.

I have never had any issues with any of these fish eating my corals. But I feed between 6 and 9 times per day, so my fish stay fat and sassy.

A reefer that does not starve his fish few and far between Please post pics.

I feed my fish 2x daily I keep them very happy. I am always shocked to hear that people do not feed 2x a day I just have to do extra water changes but it makes them happy. And yes I want tolive on the edge. I am trying a dog faced puffer tommorrow.

lhm nole- I feel as though 90% of aquarists do not feed enough. Most people forget that fish are constantly feeding throughout the day.

As for me posting pics- I do not want to high-jack Lisa's thread.

A dog faced puffer- risky risky ;)

Wow, Michael. BEAUTIFUL. You've kept some incredible fish over the years.

I think it's great how some reefers are stretching the limits of what was previously thought possible.

Many should keep in mind however that some of these combinations and experiments can be successful in a very experienced hobbyist's system, but fail miserably in someone else's care.

Exactly, I do not advise what is in many of these pictures to be attempted by inexperienced aquarists. ;) :)

I'm still not sure what "non" reef safe is. Every species of fish can be considered non reef safe in some way. Its really just what you can put up with. I have a very large dogface puffer in my mixed reef. He eats some corals...I just dont keep those with him. Problem solved. Same with my angels....all our fish pretty much come from the reef...so they are all in some capacity reef safe.

Sliding scale I guess.

Michael your fish are beautiful. I am not as experienced as some but I am totally obsessed with learning as much as I can my 125 is 20 months old. I do keep a niger trigger I just make sure I keep a nice cuc so he can have a snack if he chooses . I am adding a dog faced tommorrow if he picks at zoas I only have a small rock like above I will just remove the coral. The non reef safe are so much more interesting to me.I also do feel people have trouble because they feed there fish so little because the water quality is to imporatnt to them so they can keep more difficult fish I just think large weeekly water cahnges help with nitrates Plus I keep lps they don't mind less than pristine water quality

Hey Dflad, what all corals did your puffer like to snack on. As I have read thats its just softies and zoa's and palys really and the ornamental shrimp lol. Also lisa if you feed the dogface some squid and like oysters i think it is will keep the dogface fed and keep his teeth down some. Also what color dogface you going to get?

It is just a stanndar dogface puffer I think it liiks grey with spots to me. Should I offer the oyster on the 1/2 shell? I have never fed a fish like this
