Keeping RO/DI Water

Good info to know! I'm using the % gallon buckets as well since I have no room for a brute can...:)

If you keep the bucket covered, you should be able to keep the water almost indefinitely, especially if it's in a food grade container (I use a 6 1/2 gallon water jug I bought at Lowes) that hasn't been used for anything else. If you're going to keep it much longer than the couple weeks crvz suggested, I'd check it with a TDS meter before you use it, just in case. While I was deployed, I actually had a 6 month supply of both fresh and salt water for my tank, and there were no issues.

I agree, it will last as long as you want it to in a suitable closed container. I never aerate or heat it, and I sometimes keep it for weeks in a Brute trash can.

I do the same, but mostly because I fill it, then get too lazy to do the water change. Don't tell anyone.

Once RO/DI water has been properly made, I'm not sure I'd use TDS as a means of gauging whether it is Ok to use. Plenty of things will raise TDS a bit (CO2, salt spray droplets, etc) without being a problem. I certainly never measure the TDS of mine after it is in the barrel.

I agree with Randy, the bucket (if used even once before) will surely have residue that would increase the TDS.
