Kemira CaCl2?

I ran by Co-op today and asked for some DowFlake/calcium chloride. The bag I got is from a brand called Kemira (77-50% CaCl2). Has anyone heard of any issues with this brand? Just wondering because I am out of the two part from Seachem and am switching over to the homemade... TIA

Not sure about that brand but I would be happy to bring you enough Dow Flake to get you started when I come up if you would like.

Hmm, the 50% worries me. I think my dowflake said 77-80% if I am not mistaken and you didn't just do a typo saying 50. :) But if the only thing listed is calcium I would think its all the same. Try to do a serch on the brand on google and see what pops up. I have baggies pre-measured of the white stuff....I mean dowflake in the laundry room if you wanna just grab a few of mine if you ride down. Premeasured for 1 gallons worth per bag. I made like 25 baggs up one night because I needed my bucket back.

Gary, I would be careful with that small of a Ca content. I have some Cal Chlor that is 94-97% CaCl. If you need some we could meet up. Would be happy to hook you up with all you need.

To all my concrete customers. I DO NOT USE CaCl in my concrete. We use only non-CaCl in our mix designs as per your contracts. You know you have to put that disclaimer out there.

This may be a question that relects how much (little) I paid attention in chemistry but what would the other 50% be and is that something that you would want in your tank?

Kemira is not made by dow from what I could find. It is apparently made by some company in sweden. The dow stuff (many diff brands, but mainly dowflake and pelladow) is what Randy Holmes-Farley analyzed and used for the DIY two part. The stuff you have may be fine, but before using it, I would ask about it in the chemistry forum.

It is the additives that the specific chemical was designed for, that you worry about. Like heavy metals in ice melt.

Yeah, I meant 77-80%.

I noticed that Kemira sold out to someone as CaCl2 is not their main thing. I'll shelf it and look for some dowflake. I've asked over in the Chem forum. Headed there next.
