Hi, I aquired a Kent Maxxima RO/DI unit and need to order Filters and membrane for it (Amazon has a great deal 56 for all four) BUT I am NOT SURE if it is a 24 or a 50 GPD unit, nor does the person who gave it to me. Is the GPD determined by the actual MEMBRANE I order???
In other words, will either one fit, the Part #'s are different for the 24 and the 50, but the pics appear to depict that they are the same size, just different ouputs
Any one that can clear this up???

The filters don't matter for the GPD rate. The membrane matters for the GPD rate and needs to match your unit.

$56 sounds rather cheap for the filters and membrane. Typically a membrane on it's own runs about $40. The filters/DI run about $40 (1x sediment, 2x carbon, 1x DI).

I usually aim for something like this:

5 (or 10) micron sediment filter
5 micron carbon block filter
1 micron carbon block filter
Color changing DI resin cartridge.
Membrane (~96%-98% efficiency, higher the better). Suggest the Filmtec brand.

Check with your local water supply if they add chloramines to the water when treating. Most municipalities do not use this, however if they do, you will need to use better filters (carbon block) that are better and can remove chloramines. Call your town water dept to check.

Oh.. and on first use, make sure to appropriately flush your filters before using the RODI . Various sites have info on this. You usually want to make x number of gallons and toss it first before use.

let me rephrase. I don;t know what the unit is supposed to have for a membrane. A 24 or a 50. The guy I got it from doesn't either. That is my question.
The deal on amazon was 56 if I get both the filters and the membrane. seperatly they are about 80.
But the unit has absolutly NO #s on it sayingit is a 50 or a 24.So will it matter if I get a 50? will either one (membrane) fit a Kent Maxxima (Kent logo/pic, is the red Kent. It is NOT an HI-S model)

And I was hoping to get a few replies fopr this so I will check back. Seems odd NO ONE can help with RO on a reef site>????

Sorry My GF just left me so yeah I am a bit upset to begin with!@

There is a restrictor in the waste line.

The membrane and restrictor need to match.

Any of the RC RO sponsors can supply one. They are less than $10.

OK, heres the deal. This unit has NO filters and NO membrane. No part ## on the Membrane housing, and is only missing the Feed and output lines. so I have absolutely NO IDEA what to get without asking opinions. and Opinions on WHO to ASK for assistance.
The waste line has a restrictor, only I don't know what it is rated for. so I will suppose I need to get a new one for which ever Membrane I buy.
My main concern was/is WILL the 50 Or the 24 GPD Membrane fith the housing. In other words are they both the same SIZE (in length)???

Call the manufacturer and they will be able to tell you which unit you have... its alot better then guessing. You need to relax dude, with your pushy attitude I can see why you dont have a GF.

If you have the restrictor then you can tell what size the unit was designed to be. The restrictors are color coded and if you look up the color of the restrictor on their web-site you can tell. Had the same exact issue. Regardless, you can change that restrictor to a different gpd rate and be fine just the same.

It is Black, so I will try to research it today. Thanks
