Kenyan Moorish Idols

Anyone have experience with Kenyan Moorish idols?

Are they hardy? Is Kenya known for cyanide fish?

My LFS is getting some in tomorrow.
I'm thinking about getting one.

Kenya doesn't use cyanide to catch fish.
But I have no idea how good the Moorish idols are from there.

In Germany fish from Kenya are quite common and usually of good quality. Here in the US they are less common due to the long distance they have to travel.

Thanks. Now I am a bit more confident to buy. I will ask them to feed.
Does a fat Moorish idol usually end up OK or can they still easily die in the first few weeks? I'm going to lower the temp to slow metabolism and use an automatic feeder.

I think with them it is like with regal angels - the sooner you get them and the less hardship they had during capture and transport the more likely they will do good and eat.

I had previously bought two Moorish idol (from Hawaii) from the same store. However, I was preparing for my boards so I returned them since its not fair to the fish if they don't get the attention. I was able to train them on to New Life Spectrum pellets with a bit of persistence while I owned them.

Fast forward, I passed my boards. The fish are still there, however, they don't seem healthy anymore. Wobbly movement at 44 sec https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Z_Tq8PNwc&feature=youtu.be&a

Which I why I want to use my store credit to get the Moorish idols from their new shipment from Kenya.

Oh great, according to their facebook, they arrive tonight.

As a side note, I wonder if the Arabian butterflies are eating. I won't be getting those though.

Can't wait until after work tomorrow ;)

Taking note that since fish these days come in with more disease,
ThRoewer I have a question for you.

Have you ever treated Moorish idols or tangs with chloroquine? It seems like they both have more sensitive skin.
How did they react?

I'm thinking about treating them in the quarantine after a formalin dip as prevention.

I can't help with that. I never had a Moorish idol myself, and the last time I had a tang was in the early 90s.

A formalin dip is always a good idea.

Even if they are eating I'm sure it isn't out of the water column and clams on the half shell isn't really eating IMO. Once they eat those they will never transition. Matt, (caribfan) had one that ate clams with LRF smashed in it but lost it after 3 months. Kevin Kohen had one in a NPS,sponge, and sea fan tank in his office for 10 months after accepting prepared foods but went down hill after being moved out of the tank to be put for sale on DD. The oval bodied corallivores don't fare well for captivity.

I decided not to go and get stuck in traffic on a Friday night. Will try going next week.

Its seems like all the Arabian butterflies are gone. It also seems like they have 3 Moorish idols and they don't seem quite right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTQ5J0On9Vo&feature=youtu.be&a

The Semilavartus and Chrysurus looked good. Unfortunately the hippo tang was displaying signs of disease, therefore all in the system have it
