Kessil a350w or a360w?

I am looking at finally being able to upgrade my lights from a Wavepoint 4 bulb t5 system I had on a 75 gallon tank that made its way to my upgraded 150. I am looking at starting with two kessil lights and had decided on the a 350w, but now that the a360w is out I am trying to find out if it is worth the extra money to get the a360w's. I know the 360 has more power output and works with the Apex controller, but I have a Reefkeeper Lite. Any suggestions as to what anyone else out there might do?

the 350 and 360 are both 90 Watt lights so they have the same power.

The only difference is:

Apex Controller.
Ability to link multiple A360's to make the color the same on all 3 by only changing 1 light.
Difference in the 2 knobs and how lighting and brightness is adjusted.

So unless you are getting 2 or more Kessil or have an Apex their is no point to getting a 360.

I'm working on my initial build. The thought is that I'll either spring for an Apex now (and ask for forgiveness) or wait for a special occasion this year to request one. That being said, I've ordered two A360W lights working under the assumption that I'll eventually have that ability.

From what the product info says.
The 360 is also able to stay at full intensity. Regardless of color setting.

Unlike the 350 which loses intensity as you reduce either the white or blue channel.

Really.

So I like blue.

If I have blue knob all the way up to 100% on an A350 and white knob at 0% then I am using 45 of the possible 90 Watts of that fixture. Right.

But on the A360 if I put blue all the way up to 100% and put the intensity knob at 100% I will have that 20K Deep Blue but it will be using the full 90 Watts and the light will be brighter than the 20K on the A350. (Something not possible on the A350).

I did not realize that.

OK, then that is another reason for getting the A360 instead of the A350.

The Kessil A360 series introduced something that they called Kessil Logic. The 360 lights had two control knobs like the 350's but instead of separate controls for blue and white one knob controlled color spectrum and the other controlled intensity (brightness). The spectrum knob that controls color allows you to manually pick any color from deep blue to all white. Then you can control the intensity of the selected color with the other knob. When they introduced Kessil Logic they claimed 30% more power on both ends over the 350's. As mentioned they just released a new 360-e version last month that has a new more efficient chip and is advertised as 15% brighter than the original A360. At this point in time I would pay the extra $$ and get the brand new 360W-E version. I did but haven't set up the new tank yet.

Would any of these make sense on a JBJ nano 24gallon if I wanted to remove the top? After that decision, were it a go, i'd have to decide on mounting... But i'd like to go open top and have simple, very simple, but effective lighting. I'd like a transparent feeling mount for it as well.

I'd be upgrading from the standard 72w PC's.

Sure, I saw one on a 29g BioCube and it looked awesome.

having used both old 350 and now upgrading to the new A360We
IMO they lost some of that desired blue color
When the new 360 turn on they are reasonably similar to the originals. But after heating up they lose that intense blue - that's what set them apart from the other companies. Go look at them side by side. All the retailers i.e. Manhattan Reef, Pets warehouse are aware of the issue. But being good retail soldiers they say nothing publicly. If you have a choice go with the old ..... better price better all around community reef light.

+1 So True.

I was at a Frag Swap and I asked not one but two dealers to turn only the Blue on and they both said that the Blue was at 100 Percent with No White.

Both Tanks looked very White to me.

I would not buy the Kessil Light until they fix this issue and make it like the A350 that so many people love.

Make the Lights Blue again Kessil.

Funny that, I have two 360we's and I seem to be getting the same coloration that a LFS has with his 350s on his frag tank. Is it possible I am getting a lower setting because I am using apex and your potentiometer isn't truly going to "0" I notice that on the intensity side I seem to be getting a tad lower with the apex then with the knob.

I have had the 350s and now the 360we's and the blues look identical just alot brighter. Unfortunately, I did not have the regular 360 to compare but have heard that these 360we's do not have the "purple" look that the regular 360s had.

Yes, they look White.

If you want Blue Blue get an A350 or A150 Deep Ocean Blue Actinic.

I have seen all the Kessils through many different people.

Also.

The Kessil Controller It was just officially announced on Reef Builders.com

Check it out.
