Kessil A360 Color and Intensity Settings

Hi everyone,
Just been playing around with my Kessil A360WE's and wondered what settings others have their's programmed to. Mine sit about 8-9 inches off the water. My current intensity is at 50%. I'm still trying to find the "sweet spot" because i would like to get into SPS and clams down the road, i just don't wanna over do it. Just wondered what others had theirs set at and what luck they have had when it comes to coral/claim/etc growth.

Thanks
Marc

I have mine about 8" above water. I went over 50% color and 80% intensity and almost bleached some sps out. I run at 35% color max now and 85% intensity. My acros didn't like the white on my kessil. It's way too strong.

Lots of great info on that in this thread:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2382680

Mine are around 10" from the water but I can adjust mine up or down via my motorized light rack. As such, I'm not very precise about my elevation. My tank is 24" deep and primarily soft corals and some LPS. I run mine at about 76% intensity and 80% color. Mine are controlled with my Apex. If you have any corals, I'd suggest taking it slow with the increases. They put out far more intense light than many realize. You should never need to go past 80-90% power unless you have a really deep tank.

Remember that intensity setting will be a function of tank height. 24" tall will require a lower setting than will 30" tall.

I am still trying to find the sweet spot that my acro likes. Right now I am at like 45% color, and 55% intensity. Sofar it's stable....no burning or browning, but no real growth yet either. I am at like 8-10" off the water, and my acro is like another 12" down from the waterline.

For SPS...would you recommend dropping the color a bit, and ramping up the intensity??

Yea. That's what was recomended to me by kessil. Everything seems to be doing great and loving the settings I have. Some acros can't take that deep penetration these whites have with these awesome fixtures.

Awesome...thanks for the help!! Since this is my first SPS, I am still learning how they respond to the lighting. I think the hardest part is when you go to a mixed reef, where your LPS and shrooms need less light in comparison to the SPS.

Also....you mentioned your Kessil is like 8" off the water line. How far down from your waterline do you have your acros mounted? Or a better question....how far down from the Kessil is your acro mounted?

Right now....I operate one Kessil at a lower setting than the other. The right side of my tank has the SPS, and is at a higher setting than the left side, which houses my LPS. Believe it or not, the look is actually pretty cool. The blend is nice and not extreme. Trying to make everyone happy is tough, esp when I have to also consider proper flow. This is part of the fun though.

No problem [emoji106] I have a mixed reef also. I have most of my sps right below the kessil about 13" from the fixture. I also have a vitarock encrusted with about 7 frags of sps and they are about 19" from the fixture also responding very well to the fixture. All softies are also doing very well. I have two MP10s synced running at 50%. My tank is a 45 cube by the way so my tank is 18" tall.

Hello Maazreef! Can you provide your exact settings? I am in a similar situation as the original poster.

I'd be curious to know your light settings too. My montis were doing well but then I added the control cable for apex and can't seem to get the PE I had before.

So I would like input on this subject if you guys wouldn't mind. Standard 90g mixed reef, Ive had 2 Kessils A360WE's mounted 7 /3/4" above water, I have Ora birdsnets, ORA scripts, miami orchid, green slimer acro, tri colors, and about 5 other acros. Everything I have in the tank looks pretty good, everything has nice color, everything has polyp extension, BUT nothing really grows, everything has white tips/edges, but nothing is really moving. Water params all measure publicly acceptable targets. 1.026 salinity. But I really dont get much movement on the calc/alk readings over the week, The water changes seem to take care of it at this point. However if things were "really" growing I should have to dose, I'm ready and willing, but there has been no need to this point, this has been the case for the last 3 or 4 months. My lights run using the Kessil controller, reading the comments above I'm thinking that maybe I'm to strong, 12 hour cycle, 4 hour ramp up to 50%color 100%int then run that way for 4 hours, then ramps down over the last 4 hours to lights out. Again nothing is bleaching, everything has pretty nice color, just no growth. I'm was thinking of adding some supplemental LED light bars but above comments have me thinking maybe yet again im wrong.
I'm starting to think that maybe bringing it down to 75-80%int for a longer mid day photo period may be the way to go.

Thoughts/comments?

Look into adding some T5's

I just recently added a clam to my QT. To make sure it's getting enough light I added 2 T5 39w to the QT. Up until then...my QT just had some cheapo LED lights. Ironically I have noticed that my Stylophora and Birdsnest frags have been doing really well.

Needless to say...when I move the clam up next week... I am going to bring up the two T5's. I will report back....but the more I read on SPS...the LED/T5 hybrid setup has been getting really good results as opposed to LED's alone.

Just an update to this thread. After adding a few T5's to my system....my clam has been doing great. But the big mover was my SPS.....all have really shown great improvement. I think the biggest difference is the coverage spread tha the T5's offer.

Can anyone recommend a complete scheduled checkpoints for color amd intensity that is having much success using the controller for sps in a 24" deep tank?

I have a A360W with some SPS and trying to find that perfect setting for them. I was wondering how are your looking? Are your settings still the same as above? how many hrs are your running them at your max intensity?
