Is there a step by step instructions for firmware upgrade? Not computer savvy myself just wondering how many user error issues exist. I myself do not need upgrade but at some point would light to fix a few bugs. I know it's minor but using light less than 10% would be useful at dusk to dawn, timer accuracy would be nice but not essential

I just got my beta tester email and these are the firmware directions.

"Instructions to update the AP700 LED fixture firmware

1) Open the link and download the attachments to your desktop-
For Windows (Kessil Windows Beta Firmware Update Tool.exe)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxB8eFtPXsTTTDlWazVHdURYdWc

For MacOS ((Kessil Mac Beta Firmware Update Tool.app.zip) - After downloading, double click the zip file and an application file will appear.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxB8eFtPXsTTMmlpZy1KbGFoV0k

2) Double Click the file to open it. A window will appear.

3) Plug the USB cable into the AP700 USB port and your computer. A message will show up automatically. Press "Online Update".

4) Wait until the update is completed

5) When you see Firmware Version: v3.4.0, the update is completed!

6) Unplug the USB cable and enjoy your light! Repeat step 2 to step 5 if you have additional AP700s."

Seems extremely simple to me.

Follow the above instructions provided by reefer. It is super easy and takes about 30 seconds.

If you've never looked at your tank at night with a red light... You should. Red light is invisible to the late night critters and you get to watch them in all of their glory. Be warned, you might be creeped out by some of the things you learn live on your tank [emoji1]

I have also heard this before. Is this scientific? The fact that they can't see red?

Yes, red light (red spectrum of light) has the most resistance through water, blue the least. Animals that have evolved to live in the ocean do not need to and can not (most of them) detect the red spectrum. So red lights we can see but they can not. Blue penetrating the best is part of the reason the ocean is blue and that our tanks mimic the blue spectrum. Animals have evolved to live from this blue light because it isn't filtered as much as the others and thus is more abundant.

Very easy.

Less then 10% works all the way down to 1%.

Timer now works perfect. For those of you that don't know, the software is built to come on a few (5 I believe) minutes early to ramp up. They didn't want to damage the lights if someone set there first point at 100%.

Well, that's quite a nice set of updates actually. Cool.

Let's here from everyone some data to share. This can help the new guys just setting up lights as well as some you are considering changes.

Intensity. My peak intensity is 7 hours about a two hour ramp up/down period, peak is 70%. I am keeping my colors all on the blue side with the peak being just one spot from the middle on the blue side.

Let hear from others please. Thank you.

My light is fairly new, an upgrade from AI. At 42%, dusk/dawn deep blue, peak 42% light blue, I fade with a few points on either side of peak to next to last blue before deep blue. Ramp up is 2hrs, 10, 25,42%. 30, 20, 10. Don't use lunar. This is a tricky light, only a few sps, mostly lbs and anemones everything looks great but want to crank it up for some reason, maybe the thought I have 60% idle. I dabble with 10-20% red & green

Anyone with par readings would be nice to get a range for placement of montipora....

I did take some PAR readings and at 70% I was getting about 200 at the sand and 300+ for anything a few inches above that. No real hot spots just consistently 300+ all over my rocks. I don't have much rock so it all sits about 12" under water. I did get some 400+ readings in the center at the very top.

I also add some red (15%) and greens (10%).

Woohoo! Thanks to Franco@Kessil, got all 3 of my light linked by direct connection!

1 of the things we tried was not using numbers n letters in the password. Other was turning off all other wifi enabled devices nearby. So all my Ecotech and AI devices.

I'm going to try connecting to my wifi router next!

My peak is 2 - 6 at 50% intensity and toward the whiter side (maybe 3 shades down from sky). The lights come on at 10am and go off at 10pm and use a deeper blue during the ramp up and down. I use the lunar lights from 10pm to midnight.

So far so good. Tank is young but the few frags I have are happy so far. It's in acclimation mode current but almost done.

I just ordered the Slight Diffusion lenses so I'm excited to try those. Love this light but the color blending bugs me sometimes. I can't imagine how people deal with other LEDs with those giant disco arrays. The lenses seem to dramatically smooth out the color blending and tame the shimmer a bit.

How much red/green are you using? I do notice that if they are high you do get some seperation but it well well higher than I like anyway.

I too love the light, I've seen just about every other LED out there. A friend of mine founded SB Reef Lights, and those are great lights but not as great as Kessil.

A few of us are having issues and I agree that the software should have been better handled. However the far majority have no issues at all and the fixture's performance is as advertised. Kessil is new to this app/controller interface stuff, I feel they have honored the current customers with updates and fixes. However other in our hobby are having much bigger problems like the new APEX, that's their game and it's been rough. That company has far more market power and resources.

I so disagree with that statement. Kessil has not come close to honoring their customers with updates and fixes.

I don't add any red/green currently, but when I did I was always able to notice the subtle separation. Don't get me wrong, it's exponentially better than anything else out there, but it still exists. Based on BRS's tests, the diffusion lenses 100% eliminate it and smooth out the color blending and hot spots. I can't wait to get them!
