Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

Thank you. Everything you've said or suggested makes since. I was running T5 lights two white two atinic before I purchased the AP700. I was running the AP700 using the standard program when first purchased then I added a custom program and its been down hill from there I do have a protein Skimmer but no refugium; nor do I have real estate to start one. I still have the old bio ball technology and suspect this is the source of my nitrates. I will however take the rest of your advise.

Some advice on the bio balls. Take them out and clean them slowly. Spread it out over a few weeks. But yes, they could very well be the problem.

For nitrate control I've had excellent results with an 8x4x4 Cermedia block. Too good of results on my 60 to be honest as I struggled to ever register nitrate.

Definitely reduce the photo period in the mean time.

You don't need a fuge to run some macro algae. Many people put macro in a plastic container with some holes cut in it so it get's some flow.

If I wanted to introduce the Cermedia block as opposed to the Bio Balls, can you recommend a means of doing so without shocking the tank. I assume it needs to be gradual as you suggested in the cleaning method of the Bio Balls. I have considered just buying a new set of bio balls in a different color and slowly swapping our a few of one color for the new ones. Or would it be better to change to a new media all together?

This is my new and improved schedule I've been running for the last few weeks and results are very positive. Since my fish are back in and feeding more the corals can use more light. Also I have eliminated red/green, doesn't do anything for growth or coral colors.

I think that's a question best posted over in the reef discussion forum. I've never used bio balls, but have read of issues when trying to swap them all out. I'd post that in Reef Discussion along with pics of your sump. More people will see it there and be able to offer suggestions.

Why do you want to use anything like bioballs or a block? To me, those are items for fresh water or FO tanks, not anything with live rock.

The 8x4x4 cermedia block is a proven nitrate reducer. Bio balls are old school at this point. The blocks can allow for significantly greater surface area allowing, or compensating, for an increased bio load or minimalist rock structure in the DT.

Back on topic, I sent the request to get into the beta and got the response back yesterday. The Mac updater worked but never provided affirmative feedback that the light updated. After ~1 hour I plugged it into my work windows laptop and when I did the update it said it was already at the latest version.

Not the best interface. Even though it said I was on the latest firmware the "progress" bar never progressed past about 40%. So yeah, Kessil could use some help to make the process less clunky. But, the moonlight effect might actually be functional now, so I'm happy.

Probably, yea. If you take your eye off of it for one second you will miss it. As long as it says "already have latest version" you are G2G.

As I posted a few days ago I've changed things up a little. I have dropped all green/reds, increased intensity to 80% for 7 hours and more blue. So far corals have responded very well, vigorous growth, improved color. Not lighting alone, I have also increased feeding to both fish and corals. Nitrates are ~5ppm and PO4 is around .05ppm or less. This may of had more impact on the coral than the lighting because it is a bigger change. All I know are the results are in and so far things are good!

I may never be able to encapsulate the look of my tank with the camera on my phone but I sure am happy about what's going on right now.

Well guys.. I'm back from the dark side.. the T5s were heating up my room like crazy (live in Phoenix) now that outside temps are in the 80s, so I threw the AP back on this time with a couple of A160WE on the sides to combat shadowing.

Is there a way to stop the AP700 from broadcasting a wifi signal or is it constantly broadcasting wifi?

Please help. I just got a new AP700 and programmed the app today. As the day progresses in time, the program points I have paced are not changing the intensity or color of the light. I'm assuming the app knows automatically what time it is in my area from my iPad. I don't understand why this isn't working automatically according to my program I created and have turned on.

I just tried to push the power button on the AP700 and then turn it back on, after doing that I went back into my Ipad App and my program was gone..... It was back to how the app looked when brand new. I had to reconnect the wifi again and when I did my program I created (which never worked) was still gone. In fact all of the preset templates were gone.

I would contact kessil if you haven't already and try reseting the app.
