Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

Ap700 Owners.

Have many of you primarily view your tank from a sitting position and/or have little kids that enjoy your tank? If you do, then please advise or post pictures showing me how you manage to block the light spillage from your eyes.

My light is arm mounted at about 14' off the water (based on coral/spread need) and the light spillage can make it unpleasant from my couch (10 feet away) or if my daughter is near the tank.

I've asked other forums about methods to possibly tilt the light toward the back of the tank, but am curious if other people contrapted a DIY "blinder" of some sort I can copy.
If you still want to use the mounting arms then you could make a little visor around the fixture with heavy black paper or foam board. You only need to block a couple inches. You can test with any piece of paper or cardboard you gave around. The diffusion lenses also help since they sort of do the same thing.

But ultimately I switched to a canopy...

My 2 AP700s are 8.5" off the water and I have a T5 fixture mounted in front so I don't have that problem.

As you all know BRS recently released a lighting video. Due to that and some research I have been doing Plus readings from around my display I have decided to turn down the AP700s to 50% for 8 hours. My T5 ATI Blue Plus 60" bulbs still on for 10 hours. As you all know I strongly suggest not making changes. However information does suggest that having the right PAR is better than more necessarily. Though my corals are doing well and I have very strong flow to account for the very high PAR (400-600 in most of my tank) I want to see what happens when I achieve 250-350 through out my tank.

My PMK sensor is here, ~10" down, centered under the two pucks on one fixture.

You can see the range of PAR @70% + T5

I will monitor for the next 30 days growth and color as well as the day to day PAR levels and report back. Stay tuned. I am going to take readings throughout the tank.

Also note I will be getting a Battle Box from Battle Corals next week and will be monitoring closely their health. Allowing them to acclimate in lower PAR will be easier than higher.

It will be interesting to see what happens for you. I just hit my max intensity for the time being. I'm at 42% at 9 inches from water and I noticed some pale colors on my acros. I was about to bump up to 43 but decided to hold off for now. I've noticed some new growth on most of the corals and it's kind of early for color changes but besides more pale everything is happy and great pe.

Could someone who has more experience with these lights chime in on my schedule. I have two Ap700s hanging about 10 inches off the surface. Mainly sps tank.

Bif, would be interested in you par level at 50%? Mid tank or surface, i am shooting blind with no meter. Remember pale doesnt mean more light is needed, alot of other issues, chemistry

The paleness is only on three of my mini colonies at the top of the tank. The other colonies are doing well. I attribute it to light more than anything else. My Params are pretty good.

I have added 2-24" T5's and decreased my intensity to 38%, mostly nems and a few lps not sure how much higher i need to ho, getting better color at low levels but wondering what other lps dominate tanks are using?

Looking for suggestions on how high to set lights and what intensity to set. I have a 48x24x24 and plan on growing mainly SPS. Any feedback is much appreciated.

Is anyone else having issues with the light randomly turning on or off for a second?

I've read that this has been an issue for some people, the light randomly flickering on for a second at night when it's supposed to be off. This was supposed to have been addressed with the latest v3.4 firmware update. Did you update to the latest firmware via USB cable? If you have, apparently Kessil wants to know the specifics of the incident, so shoot them an email to let them know.

I have been in contact with kessil about the issue, they actually replaced my light under warranty but I'm still having the same issue. In addition to flickering on for a second, it will also sometimes flicker off for a second when it's on.

I believe that's a quirk in the firmware, not a defective light. It doesn't happen frequently so I don't make a stink about it.

I don't really mind too much but I informed kessil about the problem and they were the ones who said that was unusual and they wanted me to send it in. And now my new fixture still does the same thing. Plus the flickering off.

Mine also flickers off when it's supposed to be on. It probably flickers on too but I wouldn't know, I'm asleep. Lol
