Kessil AP700 "The Envelope"

I just don't get it, why release a video without information on A: release date, B: price and C: specs. The video has just raised more confusion, when most just want to know the ABC...

I actually sorta liked the video. Probably because I am not wanting the 700 to begin with. If I was waiting on it (I have no idea why anyone would be strung along like this when there are so many other quality fixtures) I can see some of the points others have made.

So dude is a janitor driving a Benz SUV which looks like might have some issues with alternator. Has a super old flip phone and a little kid. Gets some cash bonus and turns around and drops $700 on a reef light. ***? That's not passion, it's pure stupidity.

I liked the video. I see what they're going for. The light looks incredible. That being said, having a baby, myself, if I was that strapped financially to where my car was breaking down, phone was old as dirt, and was living paycheck to paycheck, and a big bonus like that came along, the reef tank would be the last thing id spend it on...Matter of fact, if finances were that tough, with a family, Id probably not even have a reef tank

I emailed Kessil directly and through FB, asked them to divulge details and said it was dumb to call it a countdown, when it count down to nothing. They said more details will be out later this month regarding price, etc. They rationalized the video, stating it wasnt a countdown to the AP700, but a countdown to the release of the full "envelope" video?

Seems like a weird retort. Why would you countdown to a 7 minute film, as if people who care enough to see the plot?

Another heads up for anyone waiting for these lights like I am. If you have a canopy or can mount on your ceiling this doesnt apply to you. But if you cant do one either one like me (my ceilings are 20 ft high) than there aren't any arm options available in the near future.

So to recap, I wanted a360we x 2 months ago but held off for this. Now when I buy it, I cant mount it or use my android to control it, since only the IPAD application is fully ready..

There are no mounting holes so you can't hang the AP700 fixture?

No it levitates over your tank. That's why it's taking so long to release due to the anti-gravity logic.

:lolspin: ... It is also why its $150 more than a Radion for the same wattage lol.

OTOH, if they only fixed the stupid 10% intensity cut-off so its true 0-100% it would be a perfect light. Not sure if they did or not but I don't see anywhere stated that it is full 0-100% intensity adjustment so they probably did not.

But then again, so would 2 A360's if the same fix applied.

Spacey :)

Well How much do you think that they should cost?

Remember this Light Works on a 4 Foot Tank.

It may be a little more than the Radion Pro but the Radion is rated for 3 Feet so you would need 2 on a 4 Foot Tank.

Then it becomes a whole lot cheaper than using Radions.

Looks like a guy who makes bad decisions? I wonder what you'd think of me, lol. Power to the bearded slackers proud to not be wearing slacks and a tie.

AP700 is basically direct competition to the Radion 30 pro, so it should be around the same price. One AP700 won't cover sufficiently a 48" tank. Just because Kessil rates it like that doesn't mean you'll be able to grow SPS at the edges. So to do it right you'll still need two AP700s or 1xAP700 + 1-2xA360. AP700 is basically two squashed A360s in one box. Great full spectrum / color blending but power wise essentially same as a Radion Pro albeit set a bit wider apart, which allows them to say that it will cover more width.

If they had the same controllability as Radion the full spectrum/single emmiter (or close to it) design would make it a perfect light. But... lets wait and see if they improved on that front too, or just the form factor of the emitters.

Space :D

I think he makes great decisions.. he chose an aquarium light over a new phone. Also not a slacker. The video depicts him as a guy supporting his family by working night shift as a janitor.

Actually I just read something on Kessil AP700 page, which raises my hope for full intensity controllability. Its not a direct statement, and maybe they mean something different here... but it does say "Lunar Cycles" in the WiFi Base Station section...

So I am thinking... what is the point of lunar cycles if light doesn't work below 13% intensity... ;) But... I am probably seeing things.

Spacey :)
