Kessil AP700

Well what can I say I was originally going with the Hydra 52 HD lights. Now I am looking at the Kessil AP700 and all I can say is everyone seems to love them. I am pretty much sold but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have seen quite a few you tube vids and they are all totally positive. My tank is deep 36" but these lights will be around 6-8 inches above tank to around 8-10 above WL. Thanks in advance, love the site man o man it has already helped me immensely. Cheers!

I see that a few people have viewed but no replies yet so I thought I would add what I have found out so far.

Originally I heard that there were software issues back in nov-dec 2015 that have since been completely updated and fixed. This was to do with the lights randomly coming on at night - storming/just turning on at random times that kind of thing and also the lunar function setting just basically not working at all; the update 2.1 seems to have rectified that issue. Then I have seen others talk about the fact you have to have an ipad to run the light but others have said they are working on getting the app to work on IOS iphone and Andriod. Don't know if anyone has heard an update on that but I wasn't able to find the app on iphone but I can find it on my ipad mini. So from everything I have looked into so far I think I am still going to go ahead with this light x2 for my tank; you can see the size below. Hopefully this will help the conversation along a bit. Cheers!!

I am just hoping that my 36" Depth will work with them. Are you using two?

This is my Signature.

The android app is also only for tablets, not for phones. No mention of a time frame on the Kessil facebook page. I'm pretty much buying lights last for my build to see if they have it out on phones by then.

PAR readings for AP700

PAR readings for AP700

Anyone have numbers at 24,30,36" deep? I have seen the numbers at 6",12",18" but I need the others. please help.

I was looking at the ap700s vs. Hydra HDs for my new tank, but geez, kessil really sticks it to you at $900 a piece. They must be in cahoots with ecotech. Price is the only real negative I've seen.

Only thing is I was going Hydra 52HD at $950 each CDN and I needed 3. No I am thinking AP700 at $1100 each but I only need two. My only concern is the depth penetration. I have not see any readings at 24" or 30" or 36" If I can get 150 par at 30" I would be very happy. My lights will be 8" AWL. Anyone know of anyone with readings that deep?

If depth is an issue and you want to go with the AI lights, go with the Hydra 26s. They are more powerful than half of a 52. The 26 is rated at 90w and the 52 is 135w.

I switched or will be on the new tank from 52 to AP700s. The spread is much more even than the 52s. A LFS has an IM SR120 that has a single AP700 over the 48" tank and it has shown gray growth and color across the tank. 1 of the main reasons I switched.

But Hydras do well too

That is a 120 owned by someone here on RC. 5 Hydra 26s.

Well 1st off, that is from AI so of course it's going to show the AI is stronger.

For some reason, Kessils don't measure on PAR meters well.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your inquiry. The iPhone and the Android App is estimated to release sometime in April. We will release more information as we get closer to the release time. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

What's status of the phone apps? At this point I'm starting to doubt they'll ever be released.

Looks like sometime in April for phone apps.

As for PAR I'm pretty sure all the LED panel lights have more than enough power to kill anything you put under them.

my tank is 48Lx24Dx22H using two ap700 at 65%, pushing 200par at the sand bed.

I don't think ap700 can handle 29.5D, if your tank heavily stocked.

Sorry offtopic- Sounds like a red sea reefer. I've got one, need to figure out lighting and was thinking 2 AP700.

Do you have a par map?

no... just check very thing is ok. no coral got crazy par.

ap700 provide very good spread, sand bed is 200~250par, 6 inch from the sand bed is 300.
