Kessil Club

My 180 (72"x24"x24") with 3 A160s. Then I have a Kessil H150 in the sump over the Refugium. It's a Fish Only tank otherwise I'd hang the lights differently to get better coverage and add a 4th one.

I see lots of tanks on here that in pictures look amazing. Are the pics that are shown earlier in the thread solely on Kessils or are they supplemented with other lights for coloring?

And if solely on Kessils, what color % are they keeping there lights on? The color that I see on mine compared to what I see in the pics on the thread is not comparable.

Hallo,i am Holger from Germany!
Have anybody the Kessils on a Freshwater aquarium ?I only find Saltwater !

I've had great success with two a360w-e tuna suns over a 54 gallon corner planted discus tank and two older a150 suns over a 35 gallon corner planted tank. That said, this is a saltwater forum, you should check some of the planted tank forums out there. Lots of people using Kessils on freshwater tanks.

I am debating on buying a 1 A360we or 2 a160we on a 60g 24x24x24 tank. any recommendtions. I will mostly grow softies and lps for now but in a few months I will be trying some sps.

Will a single 160 with a gooseneck have enough coverage over a 24x20x9 frag tank? My main concern is with the 9" depth there won't be enough height to allow the light to spread to the edges.

My two AP700s will be here Tomorrow for my 180. Who has set them up and what advice do you have for new lights? Thank you

I am setting up a new 125 gallon 6 foot mostly sps tank with a few lps like goniopra.

I want less intensity in the middle. You can see why, any coral on that upper shelf will get fried. If you look up at the bracing that middle shelf is almost 2 foot wide, it is huge.

I have 3 a360we.

I am thinking there are only two ways to do this with a controller.

I can raise the middle light higher than the other 3.

Another idea is I have to run the middle on a separate program off my Apex than the outside two. This would require a second controller cable. Is this correct?

Yep, you'll need a second control cable off the Apex. Also the Kessil controller has 2 channels if someone out there wants to run 2 programs off that. you could also place the center light up higher. It makes a difference.

How did you do that "floating" shelf rock?

Black acrylic shelves. The black acrylic blends in with the back ground and you can barely see it. I just got I think 3/8 black acrylic and cut it. Used weldon to glue it.
They are basically a C.
I also used a little silicone glue to hold it back to the glass a little.
The middle shelf gets close to the front glass.

^ How long did it take you to get to 90% intensity? Most of us don't run over 50% intensity and get good growth and color. Feel free to share your lighting schedule. :)

Tank is 48 x 20 x 18 75g, light mounted about 8" from water surface to get more coverage. I replaced 4 x 36" ATI bulbs with two A360WE the first week of March 2016.

I started with 40% intensity but corals closed up for 2 days, thats why I backed down to 30%, then the following morning almost corals opened up. Frogspawn, toadstool, Duncan, Zoanthids, open brain, mostly softies/LPS. Birdsnest, monti and scoly didnt get bothered about the upgrade.

Every week, I increased intensity to 5%. And last week, I decided to give it a 10% increased and everything looks good. I mean, all corals didnt have ill effect from a sudden 10% jump. Maybe I'll add another 10 next weekend and see how they respond.

As for color,. Ive been playing around between 20-40%, but decided to keep it a straight line of 20% all the time. It turns more blue anyways when the intensity ramps down, so its perfect. Speaking of, my light schedule is:

11am - 50
2pm - 80
4pm - 90
8pm - 50
11pm - 0

20% color all across the board.

I'd like to know too. I've slowly made my way to 80% peak only. I noticed that putting my lights up higher (physically) really seemed to perk up my corals, but found that I needed to increase intensity to compensate.

You think? The above is 24"x24" and looks about 10" tall. Also the gooseneck is positioned mid/low, whereas I would position mine a little higher. The above is with a 360. Does that matter?

The 160we does have a max coverage area of 24x24, so yes, I think you're right. Since your tank is so shallow you should be ok if you can mount it high enough to get the max coverage
