If I had to guess, it's the reflector design on the AP700 as well as the diode mix. That said, PAR isn't the always indicative of a lights ability to grow coral. Especially since most PAR meters don't read the blue channel well. Corals get the majority of the photosynthetic radiation from 420-460nm which is a blue spectrum that PAR meters and the human eye have difficulty in reading/judging the intensity. This is where the whole PUR vs PAR debate comes into play. My corals grow insanely well under the Kessils. I've posted growth shots before in this thread as well as my build thread but have stopped trackng growth because everything I put under the 360WE's grows great and I have a pretty wide mix of SPS in my tank now. I have mine 8" or so from the water and with 10 360WE's over a 4'x8'x2' tall tank, I now peak at 65% intensity.
My only concern is I have a galaxia coral that started receding recently since upgrading my tank. I have moved it higher up to see if its the amount of light that is the issue. I only have 3 kessils compared to yours. My first step is to lower the fixture. If that doesnt change, then I will most likely add more t-5 fixtures to my system. Like I said before, I have growth in my SPS, just not coloring like I like. THe LPS are doing fine around mid tank. I want to add corals to the sandbed as well, but am very concerned with growth there. Also, my parameters are spot on. Only other issue I can see would be no nitrates showing from my test.

No nitrates will be why you sps are not coloring up. They need nutrients too! Especially if you are running high light high alk.

I like the Kessil light but I would like it better if it were mounted in a hood so I wouldn't have to pour a half gallon of water in the tank everyday.

I have a kessil 360we with controller and i was curious what others daily cycles are. My corals look good but dont seem to be growing a lot. Curious if there is a better daily schedule than what i am running. I am looking to get more growth. I have an sps dominate with lots of zoas. Thanks

1 single 360 in an sps heavy tank? How big is it? How old? Parameters? Lighting is only 1 part of a very complex equation

With the kessils what to you do to control the algae growth?
40 Breeder AIO, PSK-75 skimmer running real wet, Kessil a160 on a gooseneck raised 13" above water..(was a360 but switched out), no controller running about 50% slight blue tint to the light.. Going to get a controller tomorrow..
Critters, scooter blenny, damsel, tiny mimic tang, feeding very light..
Skimmer takes 2 days to fill, barely tinted liquid in it..
Didn't have these issues when I was running 2 175MH..
Do I need to add a second a160 or go back to the a360..

I've reduced my photo period to just under 9 hours and things started to explode. Zoas growing over edges of plugs, extra growth on the favites etc.

Hey everyone! I wanted to get some opinions on lighting and schedule from those who are running T5's with their Kessils. I just finished the light fixture for my 300g (96"L x 24" W x 30"H) which consists of 4 360WE's and 8 54w T5's. I want to update the bulbs and figure out a good schedule and I'm not sure what the best combo is for the mix of led and T5.

I currently schedule the kessils to come on at:
7am at 15% color, 10% intensity then ramp up to
11am to 4pm - 60% color and 85% intensity. then they ramp down to
4pm to 8pm 15% color, 10% intensity and turn off

For the T5, I was planning on having them come on during the same peak period, 11am - 4pm to help drive growth.

So first question, what do you think of the schedule? Do you stack your times for T5 and LED in a similar way?

My second question is around bulb selection. I was thinking ATI B+,P+,Coral+, B+ for each half of the tank, in conjuction with the 360WE's. I am sure it will produce good par and growth and the P+ should add some needed red but would like to hear what others have experienced.

here is a shot of the fixture and how its set up..

I have 2 A360WEs and 4 T5 bulbs over a 54 corner tank. You may want to start with a lower Kessil intensity or check your PAR at least. But your tank is deeper and I don't know how high off the water your lights are. My kessils are ~9.5" T5s around 8"

Lighting schedule:
12pm - Begin LED Ramp
2pm - LED 25 color / 65 intensity
3pm - T5s on
5pm - Daylight T5s off (AB & P+)
7pm - Blue T5s off
8pm - Begin LED ramp down
10pm - LED off

I plan on increasing my T5 lighting schedule an hour a week until they are all on for 6 hours. According to my Seneye Reef, my PAR is 180 a little below mid tank where my corals are (with T5s on and Kessils at 65%). My montipora are responding well.

T5s are ATI:
Aquablue Special
Purple Plus
Blue Plus x2

I will probably switch to Coral + instead of the Aquablue Special when I change the bulbs to make it a little more blue.

My ramp through the controller is 90 minutes on color and 80 minute on intensity. I run a max intensity 43% and color is at 63%. The tank is super shallow so the light is placed at max height which is 10"

I took the warnings of them being super strong as a bit trivial at first, I'm a believer now. [emoji6][emoji51]

I reciently purchased a pair of kessil a160s that I intended on going over a IM 30L (36"x15"x13). But the wife wants to go bigger (shucks, lol). She wants to do the Red Sea Reefer 250 (woohoo!). Would the two a160s be good enough for softies and LPS? I'm not looking to do any sps at the moment.

Cool! I've been looking at your logs on other forums and YouTube. What do you plan on growing?

Currently there is a birds nest, scoli, hammer, ric's and some zoa's in the tank. I don't know that I am ready for a full blown sps reef, but I will be adding more pieces.
