Kessil Club

Got the cable and set up my controller. I basically took a curve somebody made on the Neptune forum and tweaked it. I don't want to push the intensity to hard until I acclimate my coral. My tank will be a mixed reef with quite a few sps. I basically took a daytime curve and pushed it back so that the lights are still on in the evening when I get home (just pushed all the hours back 3hrs) let me if you guys think this is a good starting point. I realize everyone's tank is different.

Ok needing help.

Been wondering why my bubble tips (both Sherman red and rainbow tip anemone) have turned brown over the last year under my Kessil 360s.

Everything I have read about that suggests lighting isn't intense enough. I am currently at 70% intensity with my 360s and they sit 10" off the water line and have a 20" depth to penetrate. The anemones sit near the middle/bottom of the tank at about 14" from the water line.

My question is this:
•Does the UV in the KESSILs cause this?
•Should I turn up the intensity? Most of what I have read says anemones turn brown due to poor lighting.

Just looking for what could have caused this. The anemones have really grown quite large but I have read where many people say that their anemones retain their color under good lighting.

Thoughts?

I had problems with anemones shrinking and dying with the a high color setting. Mine color is at 30%

Mine are not shrinking and dying...mine are healthy and growing...they just turned from orange and red to a tan brown color. Most articles I have read said that most have determined this to be weak lights.

You could try increasing intensity by 5% every month or so.

Advice for a 56 Column

Hello, I've been out of the hobby for about 4 years but the reefer itch never went away so I am in the process of setting up a 56 column which is 30"W x 24"H x 18"D. As you can see from my photos my rock work is centered. I want to grow SPS on the upper 1/2 of the rocks and perhaps a few LPS on the lower 1/2 and I don't want anything on the sand bed. Do you think I can work with two 160we or do I need to bite the bullet and go with 1 or 2 360WE.

Hi Mark,

Those dimensions would be perfect for (1) 360WE using the gooseneck mount.

Unfortunately, the center brace is always going to cause shading. Since it's a new build, I would seriously consider buying a new tank to avoid future headaches.

It was nice to see this post while looking over the thread... I was thinking something was wrong with my A360 light when I hooked it up to the Apex controller. By experimenting I got it to stop flickering by setting to 17% @ both start and end of ramp.

Aquarium 24x24x18 I ended up using a360 and a160...
 
Measurements were taken at 65% color and 39% intensity (Apogee with full spectrum probe). Tank is lit with two Kessil A360Ws mounted five inches above the water. Upper most measurements were taken just under the water surface. Kessils have been on the tank for almost six months now (previously lit with two SB Reef). Colors of the corals have never been better.

I have a Reefer 170 (25x20 inches, 20 tall) with a single Kessil 360W, and I'm trying to improve shadowing. Do you think the AP700 will be overkill for this aquarium? Better a second 360? I know also about T5 supplementation, but I prefer going only LED.
 
Anyone seen Reefi-lab? Start-up company with a single point light. 150w with wifi control over 5 channels for $300. He also offers a casing with a lens shade which would be real nice for when the lights are mounted high.

Sound's cool. I have always thought barn doors as seen in stage lighting would be cool on Kessils to minimize eye beamage.

I'd think if you were going to spend the money for a second 360, you may as well get the 700 (and sell the current 360) for the upgrade and controllability from the app (which isn't at all that great but it works)
 
I wrote Kessil about it and they said the 700 would be overkill, too much spillage, better another 360, but I don't think is such a bad idea in case I upgrade in the future. Thank you, anyway
