They would look great on a folwr tank .. shimmer. I dont think they will dim down to moonlight tho. My controller only works down to 5% with 360's.
For moonlight, you would need to add a small blue led light made for that. Quite cheap if you want one.
The controller will control everything else ..from timing, to intensity to color. You can even recreate the sun going across the sky if thats your thing.
I am thinking of converting my planted 65gal to Kessil Suns .. just for the shimmer. It currently has those flat
appearance t5's.

Hi, I am looking for new lights where the display portion of my tank. I have an older acrylic tank with the sump in the back and therefore only giving the display portion of the measurements. The display tank is 48 L x 10 wide (front to back of display) x 12 h (water line to top of sand). Currently I have 2 black boxes. I mostly have mushrooms, zoas, duncans, candy cane etc. I currently have 2 black boxes on top - right above the water line. I like the shimmer of Kessil's. Given how shallow my tank is I am thinking A80's about 4" above the water line and near or at full intensity. I believe I would need 2 or maybe 3 if I get too much shadows. Or, will there be light shining outside of the tank on the floor unless I hang much higher? Given the depth is why I am speaking of A80 and not 160's or so. But, I need advice.
Kessil use a proprietary design, its too expensive to retool, makes no sense to follow the Ecotech cycle.

The A80 is recommended to cover 14" square for an intermediate mixed reef. With ONLY soft corals, 20". Lift them much higher for increased coverage, your light will probably be insufficient, even given your shallow depth.
The 160's will cover up to 24", so with a tank so shallow, maybe 2 or 3 of those. You should be able to keep many sps varieties.
Here's a guy who runs a 120gal mixed reef with 4 x 160's with a fair amount of sps and a nice clam all the way on the bottom. He even puts the camera underwater for a good look lol:

There's a reason brs recommended a 360 every 12" for sps tanks.

Recommendations are only that. I see a reef tank in that vid that looks fabulous with one every 24" .. I believe my eyes.

Anyway .. now that the 700 controller problems have been settled (have they made their own controller workable with that light yet?) I would unhesitatingly recommend the 700. Outstanding light. But I'm certainly not going to chuck the 360's anytime soon either and spend another $900 (minus what I would get for a pair of 2 and half yr old 360's) to upgrade. I see no need to upgrade really. I feel no compunction to grow acro's on the bed of my tank, and as you saw in the vid, you can grow some very nice corals with one 360 every 2 ft.
One last note: I dont know it for a fact, but I would say three quarters of all failures with acro's (and most other corals) is not due to a lack of light. I would say most problems arise from water chemistry imbalances, temp or otherwise, like an alk swing or something .. and STN and similar..

Hi .. and if you are asking me that question, all I can advise you is do some searches yourself for reviews (on youtube or here) from actual users of 160's and what has worked for them. I have never owned one.
Everything I hear and see about them so far has been quite positive and I know they work with Kessil controller.

There is also a reason they dropped the AP700 from their own display tank and went with A360WEs...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but would 2 350s be enough for a 120 mixed reef or would I need a 3rd? No high demanding SPS, just a few montis and soft corals, some easy LPS.

My Kessil A360WE starting flicking today. (Pulsing like a wave, from Low to High, to Low)
It happened before (months ago) and stopped.
I disconnected it from APEX to try manual. Still the same.
Then it turned off and won't come back on.
If I let the power supply rest a bit it turns on then shut off.
Maybe for a second blink then goes off.
I assume it's the power supply and not the Light Fixture.
Anyone have this problem?

should be fine for mixed, 2 360we would be better

In my case it was fixture. The power supply did not fixed the issue

Is the fan on the fixture working? Shutting down completely may be a heat related issue.

I had a fan stop on one of mine that caused the same symptoms.
If it is less than 2 yrs old, they will send a replacement.
One way to test .. turn the lamp on but put it in front of a fan. When I did that, mine stayed on.

I'm curious... does kessil have an unadvertised two year warranty? I've purchased 4 360we tuna blue lights recently under the impression that they have a two year warranty after reading this referenced a number of times in different threads. The warranty card provided states that it is a one year warranty. I bought them mainly because of all the great reviews. I've read a number of people have had them go out after 2-3 years of use. That did not scare me because even they have to be replaced every other year at $350 a pop, they are still cheaper than running metal halides.
