Kevin's Food a.k.a. (Crud) is awesome everyone with a reef tank should try it.

My fish almost jumped out of the tank for the tender bites of food.
I had things moving in my tank i did not even know i had.

LOL glad they like it Andy. It's the only food I even feed anymore except some whole silversides for the giant brittle star I have here.

After reading about everyone dying for Rod's food I decided to make my own. Kevin's Crud :lol:

I made a huge mess in the fish room and my tanks are glad I did. I bagged it up in 6oz flat freezer packs in resealable bags and I made 12 bags so that should give you some idea how crazy it was when I was making it.

Here's the list off the top of my head.

Shrimp, Crab Meat, Oysters, Squid, Octopus, Clams, Mussels, Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, Krill, Cylclopeeze, Arctipods, Selcon, PhytoFeast, Green Nori, Red Nori, Golden Pearls, DT's Oyster Eggs, Prawn Roe.

I think thats all. :D

I blended all of the stuff 'till it was pretty smooth then I chopped up the large meaty pcs into fish/LPS sized chunks (about 3/16") so the larger fish had some sustinance instead of trying to eat microscopic stuff. I think Josh's Harlequin Tusk almost took off his finger while he was feeding it too :lol:

Hope you didn't lose any fish in the excitement.

The frags I got from you are doing awesome... as always, your stuff is healthy and thriving. You should get a sign out front and start retailing your propagated corals. :D

Yeah he got a little agressive. Everything in my tank seemed to go for it.

I have a few gorgs that showed a lot more polyp extension. Must be something in it I havent been feeding.Blastos/acans werent complaining a bit either.

FYI...That was "buy", not "but". Although with a name like Kevin's crud, the latter might be more fitting...

Hey Kevin,

The fish all took off after that food like it was the best thing to hit the water. I am looking for some "dedicated" hardware to make some too. Thanks for posting the recipe.

Target is where I got the food processor for the fish room ONLY.

$25 but it was so full I wish it held more I had to run 2 batches and then mix the stuff together.

I haven't added all the costs together. I can tell you that I had several of the ingredients already in the freezer so it wasn't an issue of initial investment. The fresh squid, octopus, crab, shrimp, oysters and mussels were not cheap. I would guess that after adding half a $40 bottle of Arctipods and 1/2 of the $15 bar of cyclopeeze that it would be at least $50 into the 11 bags. That is not including the time, smell, effort of chopping, weighing and bagging nor the cost of the food processor. I could see why Rod's food is $20 especially when you add the cost of custom printed bags or labeling.

I still have 6 more bags that I could bring with me to the meeting Friday.

I don't mind giving out the recipe because anyone that takes the time to do it right will realize that the effort/costs is not to make frozen foods a money making venture. It does save me the hassle of cutting a chunk/square of each of the different foods that I would use on any given day and allows me to just dissolve a chunk of this into some tank water and pour it in. The fish and corals get just what they need.

It is convenient but as MJAnderson suggested there is a cost to be put on convenience and that making 4.5lbs of food at once is not optimal. (which is how much food I made)

I could see how the cost of frozen food being shipped from Chicago and then marled up for retailer profit margins would end up at $20 each.
