Keys Snorkeling

If you are staying on the bay side, its a great place to snorkle when I was there. Saw some huge barracuda who thought we looked interesting. We stayed at a bungalow type motel on the bay side and it had a beach and dock so we simply would get up, go snorkling for an hour up and down the shore, then go diving for the day.
The next lot over from the motel had some kind of wooden pilings which had a red weed growing around it. I was looking closely and was very still for a minute or two and something looked back at me. It was a tiny dwarf sea horse. I looked closer after seeing that one and I found 4 more. Only their eyes were moving. Didnt see anythign like that on the reef side.
Just a note, make sure you have one of those floating buoy things with a dive flag attached to you, even if you are in 1' deep water. I was canoeing in the mangrove area and wanted to see a small shark under the water and I hadnt even finished doing the spit thing in my mask and a warden pulled up and started questioning us. He didnt ticket us when we assured him we were canoeing back right away to buy one.

depending on budget and ability....renting a boat may be a good option.

for $200-250 you probably can get a boat for the day

then you're at your own pace and can move around more.
if you want to try that contact me...i can get you some GPS numbers for cool places to snorkel.

as i said before...depending on time/weather my boat is in the water. beer/gas and i'll take you out.

Really? beer and gas? I'm up for that.
