KH above 7 may burn sps tips ?

My 200 g sps zeostart fueled tank is usually kept at KH 6.5. Additives from zeovit are xtra special, potassium, b balance. Recently KH climbed (solwly-within 1 month) to 7.14, other parameters remain constant (Ca 440 Mg 1400). Coincidently some sps show burn tips.

Could be related to KH increase ?. I am considering decreasing again KH to 6.5. Please share your thoughts. :thumbsup:

I keep mine about 10 and everything is good. I have had it as high as 12. Anything below 8 freaks me out.

For optimum growth, balance is more important than any individual number, but I would look other places... light lights.

majorly debated subject. Bests to test different alk levels for a length of time with care in mind. Some of my sps's could care less what the alk is and look killer some of my others seem to be more sensitive.

Readin all threats i say the number 8 is the "magic" number. People start having problems at 9 and others freak out when its below 8.

Personally most of the time my tank ran around 7. Now it started to climb to 9. I want it to go back to 8 because i saw better growth then. Altough its still fine now.

Also each tank is different. I know many reefers stop measuring parameters after some time. But i think its important to measure CA, MG and KH at least one a month. This way you can see what the tank is doing and know when the tank looked best. So when something is wrong you can strive to get those parameters back.

Ask yourself what the reefs water levels are where our corals come from... 7-8, I laugh when ppl say Alk of 7 is too low. Tell that to the Great Barrier Reef

This is a relatively common problem with systems dosing carbon. I'd lower it back down again. Keep it where the corals are happy regardless of the number IMO.

As long as your calcium levels are above NSW you are fine. There is no balance between calcium and alkalinity when it comes to absolute values. You either have enough or you don't. Balance comes into play when you are replenishing them.

+1 , I run my 7.5 or so and don't have issues and I run full zeo- but if u are getting damaged tips and ur sure it's not super fast growth I would lower back down.
