Update on livestock

Update on livestock

So I was in pittsburgh the other day and on the advice of a fellow reefer, I checked out one of the stores down there. I was able to pick up five awesome frags of sps! :beer:Two green staghorn acropora, a purple montipora, a pink acropora, and a purple acro. Not sure about the last two so if you can identify using the pics, let me know. Also I have updated pictures on the green birdsnest, and the brown monti. If you are wondering why the pictures look a different color, it's because I found out how to alter the white balance. So now they all look like they do in the tank! It has been two day since the frags have been in the system, and I think they look pretty healthy, no STN or RTN. Hope they do well.

I have to admit Im impressed. For a 13 yr old kid, you got it. You might even know more than me lol. Very nice setup too. Makes me wanna get my 40 breeder/sps/zoa tank up even more....

Oh that is really unfortunate, a cracked tank is one of my worst fears! I just checked out your build, awesome stand, disregarding the mishap, it reminds me of the parthenon. Can't wait to see more updates! Subscribed!

Thats what I was going for. Well I was able to get a replacement 40 for $40 new. So that works. I just need to get it redrilled this week.

One thing I noticed about your set-up was the kalk water for the top off. You need to keep the reservoir sealed closed when dosing kalk.

Thats not true, look to Holmes Farley's article on kalkwasser addition. The film that developes on the suface of settled kalk is more than enough to keep it from being exposed to air/co2.

That said, its better to cover it but not neccesary. I cover mine but not airtight, just to keep my son from sticking his hands in it or throwing matchbox cars in there! lol

Why is it necessary to keep the kalk covered? If I really have to, I could drill a hole through the back of basket and feed the tubing through that so it stays shut. Would that work?

Very impressive Kid! Not only the fact that you've obviouly done a lot of homework and attempting a rather difficult hobby at your age, but your communication skills at 13 are outstanding... Not much to offer that others like chrishayes and Reef Noob haven't already.. Great advice there.. especially on backing off the Kalk untill you have a real need to supplement your waterchanges... Hit me up anytime with questions you may have. You can post your questions on my homepage if you should need any assistance or pm me.

Dude that is a fantastic idea of keeping the top off water. I keep mine in the cabinet, but I'm running out of space. Going to need to purchase a hamper just for my top off.

BTW. I use a 5G refillable drinking water jug for my ATO. Just drill two holes through the cap one for the ATO line and the other, so air can get back into the jug.
