Love The Fish
My second attempt at the regal tang was a flop. He never really ate, except for a few bites of frozen. Had no interest in algae sheets and garlic did'nt matter. The sad part was he did really well with my yellow tang. I give up on sissy tangs. Sucks though:(

Sorry to hear that. I had no luck with my first 2 hippos. Then I bought a large one and it has done well for the last 4 months. I've read several places that larger specimens-at least 4"-do better.

thanks man,
southwest has agreed to replace the fish, do you have any other tips on keeping the next one alive.

Give it plenty of time in acclimation. I drip acclimate my fish for 3 hours. Rob @ SWSW said it only takes an hour, or else you have to use an airstone. I just think the longer they have to get accustomed to our water the better. I have lost very few new fish since I started using RO water and a longer acclimation period. Also, quarantine the new guy. That way you know ich isn't going to invade your DT and it gives the BH a place to relax and destress from shipping. My new BH also spent the first 2 or 3 days on his side, under a rock. I just kept testing the water and left him alone. After 3 days it started eating and coming out more often. Now it just begs for food when I get near the tank, instead of hiding.

Did it show any signs of parasites...scratching, labored breathing etc. Did it feed at the store?

A rule I have placed on myself is not to buy tangs unless I have a medicated quarantine tank or a properly running UV on my display.

My first 2 tangs died on me as well. First was a white cheeked tang and the other was a BH. My new BH is doing awesome. I got the 3rd from Rob, and it is doing wonderful

no sign of parasited at all. He seemed to be pretty healthy. I acclimated for an hour, maybe longer next time. I have no qt due to space and in my opionion, if you cant have atleast a 30 gallon qt its not worth it. The fish just did'nt eat real well and lost his color. Does anyone have any experience with garlic or selcon. I dont know if it fed at the store, due to the stores 15 day guarantee I dont make them feed for me anymore.( maybe I should though.) Southwest medicates their fish, so as long as they are there for a while they should be ok.
