Killer Yellow Tang

What is the temperature you maintain. I lost a couple of shrimp and my LFS told me to lower my temp to 78 (from 82). Since i did that i've not lost my shrimp and snails.

Tangs like algae, and they don't see shrimp as a threat, so I don't think its the tang. I had a skunk cleaner with a yellow tang on my first reef, and the yellow tang would actually let the skunk clean it. No signs of aggression

I am not so sure. My Tang is housed with a very large Clarkii clown and I put garlic soaked seaweed in the tank and both him and the clown rip it to pieces eating it and I had a Niger Trigger that LOVED seaweed. When I put mysis, squid, pellets and other meaty foods in the tank for the Clarkii Clown the tang is all over that also.

He eats anything I put in the tank, meat or vegetable.

The shrimp were in the tank for 9 days before they died.

I use the drip method for about an hour, and then put only the shrimp in the tank. No water with them.

Does nay one know if a low PH would cause the shrimp to die.

PH in my tank is a constant 7.8 to 7.9

Is this to low.

I would seriously consider that low PH to be a big factor.

It is all about water chemistry and in it you will read that 7.8-8.5 is OK, but 8.1-8.3 is better.

I am not sure about the shrimp dying due to low PH. Salinity may be a different issue that can definitely kill them though.

I don't think the pH is the culprit here. I have a skunk cleaner in my tank and my pH has been 7.9 for a year.
