Killing/removing shrooms

Have some sunrooms that are taking over more than I'd like. Anyone know of a way to kill control them without breaking down my rock work to remove them ? They are close to the sand bed.

Easy. You fill a very large syringe or turkey baster with boiling sea water

Curious to see if you would post a pic of the shrooms your trying to get rid of and their location in your tank.

They are on the very bottom of my rock work. I'm trying to avoid pulling my rock apart to get them out.

Those would sell for $30 each in my shop...we don't have many of this type around here. :(

Sorry, I am just appalled...to me, who cultures corals for a living...it is like you just asked the best way to flush 30 - 100 bucks down the toilet...while suggesting killing animals in the process. :(

I cut them back with a scapel or razor. a small steel brush can then be used to scrub the leftover parts. just keep in mind they may grow back and to remove as much as you can or they can spread

I agree...cut them as close to the rock as possible. They likely will grow back so just use the turkey baster with boiling water after u cut them off....no point in killing them when u can sell them or make a few $$ credit at a LFS

Why is there any need for being "appalled". He asked a question about how to control these mushrooms. There is no need for this. Why don't you offer to go to his house and help remove them for free. And you can make that 100 bucks.

As for me, OP, I would cut them back with a knife until they stop coming back.
Good luck
Dan

I explained why I was appalled, lol...not sure where the confusion is? If Miami was feasible for me to travel to for $100 in shrooms, I certainly would...but being I am in NC, probably not. ;) As it is, if I thought they would survive a shipment directly after being cut I would probably be begging the OP to do this at my expense instead of killing them with boiling water, or cutting and tossing them. :(

I don't think you actually want me to digress into more details about why just killing them bothers me...so I will stop there. :)

Oh, I'm sorry, OP...though a knife or blade will not keep them from coming back on that textured rock...the suggestion of the wire brush will. I hope the person who posted they wanted them is close enough to come get them for you! :)

I guess the confusion is why you need to put you are appalled at someone else's question regarding his reef and something he wants to remove.

To suggest that others question their thinking. If we all act like it is totally cool to kill animals that in most cases were imported from already declining reefs...then most others will, too. Perhaps if even one person stands up and says "Hey, that sounds like of wrong..." then others will start to see it from that perspective, as well. I would also be sad if someone adopted a dog, decided it wasn't to their liking and did not fit in their home well, and so had it put to sleep. To me...this is the same. I understand that corals don't have a "face" and therefore do not illicit the "aww" response that a dog will from most people...but they are alive, they are animals, and I believe they should be treated with more respect than this. If it WAS a dog in question, and not THIS particular animal that you have less respect for...would you understand my feelings and speaking up then? Why is a dig different than a fish, or a coral? Because it is a mammal? Is it okay to order a lizard that doesn't go well with the others in your terrarium, then euthanize it rather than find it another home?

Just some thoughts for you. :)

Ugh, sorry for the typos...not sure why I can't edit..."KIND of wrong" and "Why is a DOG different" :/
