King Starry Blenny?

Anyone keeping one? I've seen a few in the LFS recently and was wondering if anyone can post pics and experiences in keeping them. I've heard they're more difficult to keep. Also - if anyone is keeping one, can you let me know what other tankmates it has?

Thanks!!

I have one in my 180. Its a fairly shy, but has a playful personality. Spends most of the time backed into a hole in the rock with just his head poking out, but also bounces around sitting on the rocks as he goes. I dont find it hard to keep at all. Eats more or less anything. The only bit of caution I would say is if you have closed loop intakes in the rocks, it may be mistaken for a cozy hole and you'd suck a fish in. But mine has used closed loop outlets as seats in the past without issue. Doesnt fight with anyone.
My tank has mixed inhabitants 2 clowns, 7 anthias, an angel, a tang and 2 butterflies. No problems.

I've had one for about a year now and he brings alot of personality to the tank. He is always perching on my mag float and powerheads. When I'm doing tank maintenance he always bites me when I'm not looking and scares the crap out of me....:D Very easy to care for imo, he swims around and cleans up algae but also eats pellets and mysis. I have him with flame hawk, Kole Tang, Anthias, and pair of clowns. Good choice and fun!

I have one and again it is pretty shy. Its also a character and has lots of spots where it sits to watch the world.
Its less outgoing than an algae blenny but its quick colour changes are a reason to definately get it.

They are commonly kept over here and are fairly hardy.

Love mine. Always waiting for me on a powerhead everytime I walk by the tank. Tons of personality and a model citizen.

That's great news to hear that others are keeping this fish with little to no information available on the net. I just happened to stumble on a few in the LFS and I thought they looked like the "old man" version of a regular lawnmower blenny. Very cool looking fish and a not so local LFS is ordering some so I can take my pick.

I appreciate the comments everyone!

I've always kept the standard lawnmower blenny just due to how cool they are. My first one was with me for just under 6 years and would sit in the palm of my hand and nibble on my fingertips. Coolest fish ever.

The only problem I had with mine wasn't his fault - I had a kole tang that constantly harassed him.

I have a starry and a scopas tang that are best buddies. They swim and graze together, very funny to watch the two of them.

I've had a starry blenny for the past 3 years, it is presently in my 450g DT with 64 of it's closest friends... never a problem!

It is good to hear they are not generally aggressive. Until now my concern about getting one has been that they get pretty large.

I have a bi-color blenny and a 2 tailspot blennies in my 180 mixed up reef, and would love to add a starry if they would all just get along.

Think it's worth a shot?
