Kole tang + lawnmower blenny = war?

Hi,

I am picking up a Kole Tang tomorrow night. I'm really excited because they sound like great fish.

But I also want to get a lawnmower blenny and I have heard a few reports that Kole Tangs will be aggressive toward lawnmower blennies for some reason. But it also seems like a lot of people have both in their tank?

Any experience with this? If I put a Kole Tang in my tank and then a few weeks later add a small lawnmower blenny, will there be war?

Thanks,
ET

I would not have a lawn mower blenny in my tank. You could not give me one. Lawn mowers are very aggressive fish... Plus they are ugly.
A bicolor, or a tail spot blenny are a much better choice.

Well, I have heard about some aggression problems....

But I like Lawnmowers so much better. They have such a fun personality. I guess I'm just wondering if a Kole Tang will exclude a Lanwmower blenny or if I could still get one.

Undulated triggers have lots of personality.

I have a good sized Lawnmower and he was the first fish addition to my tank. I later added a Ctenochaetus truncatus (similar to a Kole) and he does not like my Lawnmower one bit. The coexist just fine but the tang will chase the Lawnmower away whenever they get close. It would seem Ctenochaetus sp. tangs and Lawnmowers are just a bad mix. My guess would be it's the similar eating habits and feeling the need to protect a food source.

I rest my case. Tangs know that lawnmower blennies are bad fish. :)

I have a purple, a chevron, & an achilles tang that all play tug of war with the nori sheets. The bicolor blenny & the yellow twin spot wrasse will sometimes get into the mix. But most of my other fish wait for a piece of nori to drift off.

I have a chevron tang and a orange spotted lawnmower blenny and they are fine. I think it all depends on the order you put your fish in and how often you feed them.
