I just bought a kole tang today and he's doing great. My ? is it doesnt have the yellow ring around its eye. Does it get this color later as they get bigger. He is rather small and is still a juvinial

Many of the bristletooth tangs look very similar, both as juveniles and as adults but I'm pretty sure the strigosis (kole) has the yellow eye throughout its life span. The juveniles are almost all yellow, which is common in this Genus. You might have a striatus tang instead. What color is the eye itself?

All of the bristletooths are just great fish, there may be flashier tangs out there but these guys are unbeatable algea eaters, they stay small and are pretty mellow for a tang. I think you are going to like this fish, here's a pic of my binotatus.

yes koles to me are one the most underated fish in all the hobby. great personalites, really fun to watch and a good community fish!

So far its picking at all the live rock in the tank in search of algea. And I am glad that my 2 and a half year old yellow tang hasent bothered it one bit

Kole is actually a Hawaiian name for the Yellow-Eyed Bristletooth (Ctenochaetus strigosus.)
Not that it really matters.

Kole tang is the generic name a lot of retailer give the orange/brown bristeltooths, when there are actually very likely other species, as ID'ed before.
