Koralia at Sailfin

I was at Sailfin yesterday (Tuesday) and I saw they had Koralia 1,2,3 and 4 on "sale". The prices were similar to online retailers without the shipping so it's a pretty good deal. The 1 was about $25 and the 2 was $35. (I didn't look at the 3 or 4). I bought a 2 and it is really impressive, very nice diffuse water movement.

Unfortunatley I forgot to ask when the sale would end.

Anyway just wanted to let everyone know.

I have the first one---what I found that certain corals--eg my big mushroom can't be within 8 inches of it--I don't know if it is the more effecient flow, the turbulance or it the blade is making a high pitched sound---the mushroom retracted for a week until I move the pump a good distance from it

webbstock...thanks for the heads up about the sale pricing of those pumps. I was over at Sailfin this past weekend and did not even realize that they were carrying Koralia's.

Now that you got the flow...you need to get the frags. So you are coming over to my apt straight from the lab, right?

capn_hylinur...like BennyZ said...Mushrooms do not seem to be happy with lots of high velocity, direct current. I had a large red mushroom that expanded tremendously once I situated it in a location of the tank that was not receiving much direct flow.

I have read that mushroom may even go so far as to detach and float away; seeking out a more ideal area to re-attach.

Vitaly - "seeking out a more ideal area to re-attach."
maybe that's why the one 'shroom I was keeping for you 'disappeared.' but the new green one is looking good.
And you can thank Webbstock, now I think I want a pump... check your e-mail.

medic29...I am going to stop by Sailfin today (I think they will get new inventory too) and check out the pumps.

I know you modded your Koralia 4. Do you know if a similar mod can be done on the 1 or 2 (eg. swap the impellar blade)?

don't know, but we could try. would need to get smaller propeller i'd think, or trim these down quite a bit. But, if you are thinking of modding them, why not just get the next size up and get the same amount of flow stock??

...cause that would be too easy. ;-)

I am not gonna be buying for myself, but rather for an associate up north.

There is no plan to mod, she will use it stock I am sure. I was just curious...so that if a bit more "kick" was needed it could be done by a quick mod.

Wow...You guys saw right through me I get a $75 store credit for each koralia sold, plus I have a personal vendetta against the other 12 local fish stores in the C-U area...Or wait, maybe I was just trying to be courteous and let local reefers know of a good deal. Hmmm... actually trying to be helpful...how novel!

Don't directly point the store out and that they have great specials on items and you won't have to worry about someone calling you out for breaking the RC advertising rules. That simple, glad you want to help an LFS out just be a little more discrete the way you do it.

Actually, a few months ago (in this forum nonetheless) one of the RC mods made it quite clear that there is no conflict with mentioning deals at LFS as long as the person is not directly benefitting. Some people might have issues with it, but RC does not. I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

*edit - It was in the BNARC forum. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=940552

And here's the quote from Brian D

Yes, again, as long as you don't receive any benefit for the post. If you make a post because you get a discount on livestock or "referral" credit at a LFS, that is a violation. If you try to arrange a group buy because you will get a "cut", that is a violation.

NO financial motive = no problem

You are correct.

You, however, are not correct.
