Koralia at Sailfin

Thank you BrianD for resolving this whole matter.

Now if we can go back to the actual subject of the thread that webbstock started....

I stopped in today and finally got to see the Koralia 2 powerheads in person. I really like them...I just wish the housing/cage was a bit smaller (big jump from the Koralia 1 to the Koralia 2).

There are 2-3 of each model still in the store. Additional ones will be arriving tomorrow and the sale runs through the end of the month.

There was nothing to resolve, I was just trying to keep someone from getting into trouble. I see that the mod came and made the point known that he was ok, good. That is all I was concerned about, everyone here knows how touchy the rules can be on RC at times. I was just trying to be nice and help keep the trouble to a minimum. Good deal on the koralia power heads.

GreenBay1...

My post/comment to Brian was sincere and accurate. He has resolved the unnecessary drama that was started in a completely benign thread.

Kevin, Vitaly stated a couple of posts ago that it runs through the end of the month....which would be today...

philagothos...on their website there is a PDF file that shows items on sale this month. Page 7 shows the Koralia's regular and sale price.

Send me a PM if you are unable to find the link.

webbstock...thanks for the heads up about the sale pricing of those pumps. I was over at Sailfin this past weekend and did not even realize that they were carrying Koralia's.

Now that you got the flow...you need to get the frags. So you are coming over to my apt straight from the lab, right?

capn_hylinur...like BennyZ said...Mushrooms do not seem to be happy with lots of high velocity, direct current. I had a large red mushroom that expanded tremendously once I situated it in a location of the tank that was not receiving much direct flow.

I have read that mushroom may even go so far as to detach and float away; seeking out a more ideal area to re-attach.

sorry I meant to say it was a toadstool mushroom---but it did open after I moved the power head:

Thanks Rick, I saw the day that it ends, that's not what I asked though. Thanks Vitaly, for pointing me in the right direction.

What I want to know is, which one of you went in yesterday
morning and bought all 7 of the small ones?

Oh well, I probably would have eventually got a #3 anyway.

:)

I got the last two of the 1s that were on the shelf last night, don't know if they had more in the back or not. I would have gone with the 2s, but they only had one on the shelf. Now that I have them in my tank I'm wishing I had gone with the 3s.

I bought one of the 1s just to move some current behind my rockwork. I wish I would have gone with the 3 as well! This thing hardly pushes any current. If it didn't take up half of the tank it would be perfet for a nano. I'm unimpressed.

I think they'd probably be great in a 10, maybe a 20. But two of them together are not really enough for my 29. I'm thinking of putting my MJs back on the wavemaker and just using these for extra flow. Might even try moving one to my 10 just to try it out (I use a single MJ 900 in there now).

Anyone know if there is a prop mod that will work on the 1s? I might have to take a look at it and see what might work.

dude, you got a 1. of course it's not going to move a ton of water.

:)

two 3s are great on my dad's 55 (circular flow) and i have a buddy with some 4s that are impressive for the price on a 125.

When I first set mine up I was expecting a huge swirling vortex of death, but it was much more subtle...So I did some thinking and looking.

What I came up with was that these make a more diffuse flow pattern than compared to the MJs. From what I noticed, the current isn't as strong as my MJ, but it spreads nicely through the tank. Vitaly has a nice video showing the flow from a 2 with air bubbles added. It really fans out quickly and by about 2 feet from the pump the flow is as wide as the tank.

Also if you want to mod the koralia, it should be really easy by just adding a bigger prop (I think medic29 did this).

Hey now, that is not good info. I have a 1 in my 30 and it is doing a great job. I have a MJ12 in there too but the Karolia beats it in flow. My tank has lots a flow.

Wow, maybe there's something wrong with your MJ. I have 3 MJ12's in my 90 and they push way more flow than the Korallia 1.

At least according to the manufacturers the K1 puts out 110 gph more than a MJ1200. We all know that the K1 is much more dispersed and thus not as forceful. But I wonder if the MJ1200 excites more water into action as a result of it's more forceful stream. I've never taken a class of fluid dynamics, and I certainly don't claim to know everything on this topic. Anyone have more insight into this than I do?
