Koralia Evolution Powerheads

Just like the old Koralias except they are smaller and you can use them with a wave Timer. I have 2 of the 1400s on my 125 that alternate back and forth on one minute intervals

I recently picked up a couple for flow on the bottom of my frag tank. Honestly, I HATE them. I have to plug them in and out multiple times to get them to spin in the right direction. PITA

I've seen other people have this issue, but I never have had any problems. Do you take them in and out all the time?

Just when I've moved plugs around or something. Yesterday I came home to them spinning backwards for absolutely no apparent reason. Power surge maybe? Don't know. My controller showed no outtage. I'll keep playing with them for awhile but eventually they will meet my hammer!

thats weird cause I have had one running on my 90 for 7 months and never had a problem. not bad little power head for cheap!

what size did you get? when you get tired of them let me know.

I heard they had problems when they first came out with the Evolution series. How long have you had yours tcwayne?

Have you ever stuck your hand in front of it to see if it's flowing out instead of in? I knew these did that so I check them everyday. When their spinning backwards you cannot tell unless they are normally moving something obvious. They do not make any different noise or anything, just spinning the wrong DAMN WAY! Why do you think John quit selling them? People may have them spinning backwards and not even know it. Not that you do, I'm just saying.

The biggest ones

couple weeks

I read somewhere that the bigger ones, the 1400's, were having that same issue when they first came out, supposedly Hydor went ahead and redesigned some different bushings since and was sending them out to all their customers who had that same complaint. Anyone else have any experience with them?

You can get a new bushing for free to stop them from going in reverse. My big dislike is that on a wavemaker they still make a clunk when they start. I can see my fish jerk sometimes when they come on. Otherwise I think they are good pumps especially if you catch them on sale.

I'll look into that, thanks.

I like the Koralias. They are dead silent and for the money, probably the best powerhead for the price. Their service is excellent. I have heard people with problems with theirs and got it fixed by contacting their service team.

If you have reverse probs it's the old bushing. This was realized very quickly after the release of these pumps. So, Hydor stepped up and updated the bushing and started offering a new free bushing to those who got the ones with the old bushing. The prob lays in the fact that even if you purchased your pump yesterday, it doesn't mean that it wasn't sitting on a shelf since before the new bushing came out. So if you have this prob, contact them and they will send you the newer bushing.

I have the old and the new types (700). The new types have more parts to assemble and if they are not put together PROPERLY you could watch your propeller fly off somewhere into your rockwork never to be seen again. Fortunately, should this happen to you, Hydor will have mercy on you and send you a new one free of charge. Oh, I like them just fine.

I bought 2 Koralia Evolution 1050's for my 46gal bow and within 8 months of use both of the covers broke. The rubber bumper on the inside of the front cover both broke and caused the pumps to spin backwards. I think there's a defect there. I wouldn't recommend these pumps from my experience.

You guys should try these. I do not recommend using them on a wave timer, but they are are great pump for a very low price and very efficient. Pumps ranging from 750gph at 6w to 3000gph at 24w.

I have 2 of the 3000gph ones in my tank. MAJOR FLOW. LOVE THEM. I had to turn one off because it was just too much flow in my 90 for some of my low-flow inhabitants with the limited space I had to place them. I'm about to move in the next 2 days, so i'm planning on re-aquascaping and using both soon :D
