Koralia intake covers

Hi all,

I have a 55g mixed reef with two koralia 3s. I have been toying with the idea of buying an anemone (RBTA) for my two little clowns who still seem a bit timid in the presence of my yellow tang.

I have done my homework (......for months on end) and I am pretty sure I could house the anemone just fine, but I am a bit concerned with the koralias. I have heard horror stories of roaming soft bodied creatures getting mangled in power heads and I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to cover the koralias to prevent such an atrocity.

Thanks in advance!

As a fellow Koralia user, I think The intake is so difused with Koralias you wouldn't have anything to worry about. I used to use standard type powerheads and they sucked up a lawnmower blenny and a few cukes. I've been using the koralias for about 6 months now with no incidents.

Don't chance it. It may seem diffused enough, but people still put stuff on them to protect the anenomes. One guy I saw (I don't rememb if it was on this board or another) used gutter guard. basically made a tube around the koralia, and then capped it w/ the GG on the ends as well. If you're investing in an expensive anenome, especially a bta or a magnifica that will roam, better to be safe than sorry and out $$$

Gutter guard should work, just use zip ties to secure it. Or, if you wanted to get fancy, get some fluval foam and cut it so its thin and wrap it with that. Just be sure to clean it every other day or so to keep it from clogging, and reducing your flow from the PH.

a friend of mine had 2 of these pumps and lost a (bta) to them he has since then covered them with foam and things seem to be ok

I had 3 GBTA's in a 40 with a korilla 1 and a korilla 3 and haven't had any problems. As long as the anemone is happy, you shouldn't have any issues with with it wandering.

I almost lose mine with a coralia. But I use this:

I found it in the anemone forum. It works wonderful.

it must be the needlepoint mesh from the fabric store.. the holes are too small for gutter guard. looks like it'd work perfectly though.

Thanks but it wasn't my idea. I found it here in RC and it was so easy to do the mod that I did 2 myself and my anemone is still alive. And I can sleep again :)

I see this is an old post but don't be fooled. I lost a beautiful RBTA to a Koralia the first night I brought it home. The PH was at the opposite end of the 48" tank. Better safe than sorry!
