Koralia powerheads anywhere local?

Has anyone seen the Koralia powerheads locally?
If so, how much and where?
I'm looking to get a couple of the #4 Koralias.

dr foster has them and I was planning on ordering a #3 to try out. They charge $60 for the 4. Want to split shipping? Where do you live?

I found them someplace else cheaper than the good doctors.
I just got off the phone with Luke over at Premium Aquatics.
The #3 is $40 and the #4 is $50.
Ground shipping for our 3 together would be about $11.

I tried to see if Robert over at Eco Reef had them, but he's still expecting his first shipment and didn't have an ETA yet.

I would rather have got them local, but I don't think anyone is gonna beat that price by a long shot.
If anyone else wants to go in on these and split the shipping speak up now.
I'll be placing the order this week.

Guys just as a heads up, I actually have two #3's in my tank, the amount of flow that they generate is ridiculous.....it spreads it out in a wide random pattern. I love them. I have a tunze turbelle nanostream 6045 on backorder, once i get it Ill compare the three......honestly is there such a thing as too much random flow?

...I actually have two #3's in my tank, ...
Do they have sufficient cage to keep things from getting in the blades and getting sliced up?

It looks like Andrea (speckled grouper) is going to check with someone she knows in the biz about maybe getting a better deal for us tomorrow.

Does anyone else want to get in on this?
I'm emailing her a list.

If she can get a deal, great!
Otherwise I'm putting in the order with Premium Aquatics on Thurs.
If anyone else is getting ready to order something online that they might carry, check their website for pricing, http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=PA
They just moved into a bigger place so they only have dry goods available right now, no livestock.
If Andrea can't get a better deal on the Koralias then I will start another thread for "Premium Aquatics Group Purchase" tomorrow.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. (is there really such a thing???)

I can tell you one thing for certain...
If the cage isn't big enough I'll be the first one to find out.
I have the bad luck of only purchasing suicidal-emo anemones.
If there's a powerhead in the tank that will kill them, they'll find it.

It looks that unlike most impeller/propeller pumps, this thing uses a screw design that leaves plenty of empty space around the blade inside the cage.
I'm hoping this means that if one of my anemones gets sucked into it, it won't be shredded by being forced thru the blade.
We'll see...

From what I can tell the answer is yes, honestly, most GOOD powerheads are not anemone friendly but this one has a design which significantly reduces the likely hood of an anemone getting sucked in, it worried me for a bit, but then again my anemone hasnt moved since the first week I put it in the tank.

Still posing this noob question is there such a thing as too much random flow......I am getting the Tunze turbelle nanostream as well....660 gph...its the smll one i think...but was concerned because with the two Koralia's I have over 1600 GPH.....in a 65 gallon tank.....would another 600 gph be overkill?

koralias

koralias

My tank is running on Koralias and they're quiet and run cooler than my previous pumps. I ordered mine on Drs F&S first shipment of these, so it's been a while and so far they're doing well.

As far as things being sucked in, I've got 4 peppermint shrimp who like to get into just about everything they see... so far none have been maimed or killed... I've even seen one walking on top of the koralia, he tried to get to the front but the flow just blew him off, so no harm done. Same thing with the snails... Here's one of mine:

The Koralias arent noisy at all.....when they first start running (brand new) there is a small difference but that disappears after the a day or two once the a broken in.....

The are sturdy and well made.....honestly te pictures do them no justice....I two of them in my 65, and one other powerhead that will be removed today. and the produce a wicked amount of flow....for being so small.

Lou, same here....one morning woke up and saw a shrimp "shell" on it....only to realize that the shrimp shed in the night, they like to sit on it aat night....had yours....I have had one in there about 3 weeks thats started to become encrusted with coraline....You can click my little red house to see mine its on the left side of tank....these pics are about a week or so old....I have since added one to the right side and removed the older pump.

john,
how much will the powerheads be after the discount and the divided shipping?
Jess
Right now they're $39.99 for a #3, and $49.99 for a #4 before shipping.
Shipping should be minimal (less than $5 per person depending on how many people are ordering)

i want to get me 2 #3 for my 65 but how can i get them down hur in miami.
When they come in we could all just meet at someplace like Coral Reef Farms, or Reef Life on the weekend to divide them up.

John, I would also like to know what the cost would be for a #3 or heck two #3's.
So far it's $39.99 for a #3.
By comparison, Drs. Foster & Smith's are charging $49.99 for them.

Also for comparison, the Koralias are comparable to the Tunze Nanostreams but less pricey.
Both come with magnetic attachment, and are adjustable 360 degrees.

Nanostream 6025 = 7watts, 660gph, $60-$70
Koralia #3 = 6.5watts, 850gph, $40-$50

Nanostream 6045 = 8watts, 1189gph, $90-$100
Koralia #4 = 8.5watts, 1200gph, $50-$60

The dimensions seem big (Koralia #3 = 2.875" x 5.875")...can someone post a full pic of it in their tank, just to make it easier to visualize it?

Still, count me in for two #3's. loyalrogue, when do you think you're going to be ready to order?

Check out http://www.championlighting.com I put a order in for two #4's and just got them shipped after a month wait. Most place's have sold out and dont have them or have increased there pricing on them 5-10 dollars. total cost shipped was 108.56. Good Luck
