I do not run a ULN Zeo System either. I do use CV, AA, LPS, Xtra, Sponge Power, Snow and ZeoBak+Start 3. The tank looks GREAT, growth is CRAZY & the colour is as EXCELLENT. To be honest, I do not know if it is because of the Zeo products or the tank parameters finally hit a sweet spot on their own. At this point, I am not prepared to stop using the Zeo products to see if the tank craps out. In my heart, which is not very scientific, I feel it does make a difference. Then again, I could just be rationalizing the money I spend.

Has anyone tried/documented: adding, with holding and then adding Zeo products in a non-Zeo System????????

Following this thread with great interest!

well you are prety much using all Zeovit products for nutrition reduction and coral food ... so not sure what you mean when u say you dont run a zeo system ? only thing missing in the list is Zeoliths. [your rocks would work the same way, so does GAC and ....]

I've been thinking about using this product, but don't run a zeo tank, might not be worth it for me looking at the responses above.

I think it may only be worth it if you're running a very low nutrient system.

bigger question is, why feed if you have high nutritions :)

to make the corals grow faster ? then it is worth it.

to make the coral color up ? no you have to deal with nutrition first :)

Interesting comment, I have never considered it a Zeo System. My LFS recommended the AA & CV, liked it so gradually added more Zeo products. I have not read up on what a "full" Zeo System includes. what defines a "full" System?

I do NOT have a refugium and only use a Deltec HOBO skimmer (MC600). Despite using many of the Zeo products I never considered my system as ULN as I feed way too much (with no apparent ill effects). I feed 3 to 6 cubes (blister pack) of Kikari Brine shrimp per day for 6 fish (4" Purple tang, Flame angle, 2 Black Ocellaris, Yellow Coris wrasse, & a Royal Gramma). The rest of the fish feed on naturally occurring pods (2 Spotted Mandarins, 2 Banded Pipefish, Dragon Pipefish & a Bluestripe Pipefish). For the corals I feed 1/5 teaspoon of ReefRoids and 1/5 teaspoon of ProReef powdered phyto Twice a day (noon & after lights out). During the daily daytime feeding I also add 1/2 cube of Cyclop Eeze per day. In addition to the daily feedings, once a week, sometimes twice a week, I spot feed my carnivorous corals approximately 8 to 12 cubes of brine shrimp. I mix this up with Krill & PEMysis. I would never recommend my feeding schedule to any one. I can hardly believe that the system has not crashed. No outbreaks of algae or cyano so I keep pushing the bubble to ensure our corals are happy. I do get algae build up on by frag plugs. These I scrub & scrape off weekly. On the plus side, I have a super overstock of corals and I try to do a 27 gal water change, 19% of our140 gal tank, once a week. Realistically it is more like every two weeks as I semi regularly do not get to it weekly. I have stopped testing for Nitrates & Phosphate, as in the past they were always acceptable. I do have a sock of Phosban in the Deltec MC600.

Allmost, with such an intense feeding scheduled do still think it is a Zeo ULN System??

Just a note, the tank does react to high nutrition levels. I had a beautiful 8" Desjardin Saifin Tang. As he matured he started to knock over corals trying to get at algae. The only way to stop him was to feed him a full 12" X 12" sheet of nori a day. As you know what goes in comes out. In no time I had algae everywhere including brow slime algae on the glass & rocks. Unfortunately I had to sell him to save the tank :(

nice nice, you are almost on the same boat as me :) I keep ALOT of fish, and feed them heavily, I just like them fat ! lol and Zeovit is what's keeping my tank from being taken over by algae. :)

I can not comment if your tank has reached ULNS or not to be honest but its good that the Zeo additives are working for you :)

PS. try Biomate as well ... it helps break down and remove detritus and in turn would lower po4 ! its a scavanging bacteria ! [like the ones that open toilet :P] I got amazing results with it, dosing twice the recommended amount to keep up with my high bioload :)

Glad to hear you keep your fish happy too! I seems that the Zeo stuff REALY works neutralizing excess nutrients.

Good advise . . . . I thought Biomate was an accelerant for ZeoZym. If it was bacteria would it not have to be refrigerated? Are you sure about the info??

New Zeobak doesnt even need to ne refrigrated ;) biomate is a bacteria as well, yes. and it does give good results when mixed with ZZ, just like other bacteria like Bak.

confirmed by Thomas Pohl himself ;) why would I post lies lol you can double check on Zeo forums too. :)

I do not have an ULNS system. Meaning, I don't run the zeo system. I don't really know how to measure a system to claim it's ultra low on nitrates/phosphates/nutrients etc. I do know that my nitrates are below what can be measured on most testers. My phosphates measure 0.02 on my hanna. I'm not quite sure how to test my nutrient level. I feed my fish 3 x week. I run biopellets, carbon, and GFO in reactors. I have a filter sock on 24/7 changed out every 3 days and run a skimmer. My water seems extremely clear. My sps are growing, but I get no day time PE. Good PE at night time. I would like to get good PE during the day as well. This is the reason for the poll. I would really like to get good PE during the day without increasing my PO4 (it's almost impossible to increase my nitrates without taking my biopellet reactor offline).
It was suggested in another thread to use coral vitalizer to achieve daylight PE without increasing PO4. I have no problem spending the money on this product to achieve daylight PE. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get what I want from this product without running a zeo system. As well as to see if other products exist that will do the same thing for cheaper. Let me know :)
I use coral vitalizer on my NON zeovit tank for daytime PE and it works great. i haven't noticed that it does anything else for my corals though. both my nitrates and phosphates are zero due to my GFO and de-nitrate stones so i use this to make sure they are getting enough nutrition even though i target feed my acros oyster eggs twice a week

if your system has enough nutrition [food] then EXTRA FOOD will not do it any good. just like how extra fries does you no good when you are full.

if how ever your tank is lacking nutritions, then CV will help bring those to your corals, so they can regain their natural growth and tissue color.

hence why ppl using low nutrition systems or Zeovit see better results.

secodly, it takes approximatly 2-3 weeks for the corals to get used to it and use it as their food source ... so must as well be patient.
+1 agree totally. .just like most products take time to work..this product is to supplement for low nutrient system

I found this biggest improvements came from xtra and b balance. Its hard to say if CV helped, and I run a full zeovit setup.

I couldn't answer the poll because I'm undecided. I currently am using Zeo products, specifically Sponge Power, Pohls, and CV. I use the SP every other day, the CV a few times a week, and the Pohls I use based on the appearance of the corals. When the corals are deep and nicely colored, I don't use it as much. When the corals start to pale (for example after I change the GFO) I'll ramp that up, to daily or twice a day. I also ramp up the feeding as well, so its hard to say how well these products are working. I feel like I have very good colors, but the growth is kind of slow. That said, most of my corals started as tiny frags, so that may be at play here. I do plan to continue to use these products, and maybe one day try my had at full zeo. After all, I did buy a zeo reactor, LOL! I also carbon dose at a very low dose as well. I'm definitely not ULNS. My nitrates hover from 2-5 and phosphate between 0.02 and 0.06. Its only a 30 gallon, hence the fluctuations.....
