Koran Angelfish Food Suggestions

Yesterday I went by petco to get some cat food, stopped by the salt water tanks, by far the tanks fish are in the worst condition I have ever seen here at the local petco. Every fish is infested with ich. Forgot about the cat food.... They had this Large Juvinile Koran Angel, it was swimming very erratically, had ich, was rubbing all along the tank walls. They had him now for almost 3 weeks. Basically I told them that fish was gonna die... soon and they needed to hook me up on a crazy deal and I would try to keep him alive. I wouldn't have tried it but I was sad that this awsome fish was going to be killed for no reason. Its not about money in this case its about a sweet fish that should have been left in the ocean. You can almost see some yellow on his sides and soon will be an adult.

This was yesterday. I left his bag floating in my display while i set up his new 10g hospital tank. Checked the sq of the petco water.... 1.018 :thumbdown

The fish looked much better floating in the display tank. Staying vertical and relaxed looking. Shame how a fish is more comfy in a transfer bag than a display tank.

He went into the hospital tank and instantly starting feeling the sides of the tank.

I saw him nip at a few peices of spirulina after he was in the qt tank. But thats about it.

This morning after a dark night he seems much more relaxed. I added a small amount of ich treatment, no change in behavior
 . I tried to feed him some more spirulina but he didnt really go for it.

He looks pretty happy now. In 12 hours you can see a difference in his health, still ichy but not as bad.

Which gets to my question........ What do these fish find irresistible. I know it might take a few days for him to eat but the sooner he eats the sooner he is gonna get better.

Thanks,
Mark

Most fish cannot resist mysis shrimp.

If you can get him on pellets soon, then he should make a good recovery. I like formula II pellets.

I have a Blueface thats eats everything! Frozen Mysis, Spirilina, Marine Cuisine, Emerald entree , Enriched Brine Shrimp, Formula's one and two etc.. Also try algae sheets
Alternate soaking his food [and all your fishes food] in Vita-Chem and Selcon..I would get some Beta Glucan for this Angel [found at GNC] You can soak his food in it as well

I would preform Hyposalinity treatment on this Angel..Angels are very sensitive to medications.
Good luck

thanks for the responses. I will def go hyposalinity with this one. The medication was in hopes to get a good first whack at the ick I used only 1/4 the amount recomened. I plan on doing 50% waterchanges everyday until i get it down around 1.010.

He didn't even look at the pellets, though i'm sure he will one day as all the rest of my fish did.

nah i dont have a refractometer, I read up on the procedure last night. I am going to order one so its here before my stone age method runs out of testing room. Didn't know about the PH dropping. I am gonna do daily 25% -50% waterchanges so i doubt I will have to do anything with it. The ph of my RO/DI with the IO salt is almost perfect, but that is at 1.024. I have some superbuffer if nessasary.

Update he is def. scared of me and gets all into a corner when i show up. I am gonna put some cardboard around the tank and go get a fake reef rock to hopefully give him a more secure feeling.

I'm gonna go take a pic of the fish. which one of my friends has already named "Jackson".

I know you are getting a lot of diffent opinions here, but I recommend the following for a petco fish:

1. treat with copper at .15 for 3 weeks. I would not go hypo with this guy. I think hypo creates problems in itself. Copper monitored properly will truly knock out the infection so you are sure that you do not drag the parasite to your main tank.

2. He needs protein. Nori is great but try a fresh open clam or some frozen krill. Careful on polluting the water in QT. He will come around. Korans are great and tough as nails.
