Hey guys,

Looking into my first horses.
Here in the UK there are only H.reidi or H.kuda available (very occaisionally H.erectus).

first problem... I cant decide between the 2! What are peoples thoughts about these horses? One more reccomended as a newbie than the other? Pro's con's of each?
Can they be mixed?

I am fine with the marine side as i have had a reef going for a number of years, but just new to horses.
I would also like to possibly raise some of there fry! So please bear this in mind with your choices thanks.

Cheers for the help
Mark

With mine, the kuda's are more open water and visible whereas my reidi's stay on the bottom in the rocks and seldom venture upwards.

My reidi have always been explorers. I do think alot of the personalities of the species are related to individual speciments and not the species as a whole.

Personally I love reidi, kuda are very nice horses as well.

There is no advantage from one to the other on raising fry. Either way it is going to be some hard work.

Thanks guuys,
This is the kind of feedback im after.
Do any take to tank mates more than the other? Going by looks alone i am thinking reidi, but kuda are a little different in England so it has got me thinking...
I may also have the chance at a pair of H.barbouri. Though they will cost quite a bit more. Pictures of these i have seen a really stunning.

How much do these horses differ in size?
Do poeple mix different pecies? is they any reasons not too? Hybridising perhaps?

Thanks again
Mark

The WC factor is usually related to internal parasites which can be treated for. The main issue with mixing species seems to be of a bacterial nature that seahorses can be asymptomatic carriers for various strains of the bacteria vibrio. When a seahorse is exposed toa strain which it has no previous exposure to, then the seahorse can succomb to the illness. If you do a search on here it has been discussed to death several times.

Reidi or kuda are an excellent choice for seahorses. Both my reidi and my kuda are excellent little horses. My reidi are more active than the kuda, but not by much. I hope you enjoy them :)

Thanks for all your help guys.

Ok so i wont mix. It looks like coming down to just on which i prefer visually.. am i right?
Any of them tend to exhibit colour changes more than the other?
