Here's what I use and mix up. Then just shake and add a tablespoon to my 180.
Add 18tbs CaCO3 then add RODI to the 900ml line.

I was dosing daily and then weekly. Never noticed a difference on water clarity. However, I have noticed an increase of coraline. Which they may like the textured covered surfaces that the CaCO3 sticks to. It was something that was also proposed as what people notice when they dose a product like purple up as it also contains CaCO3.

Fwiw 1/8tsp per 100mL doesn't cut it imo. When I dosed it was barely cloudy. I remember dosing coral snow and the tank being pretty cloudy. So I doubled it to 1/4tsp per 100mL rodi and its better. I think 1/2tsp per 100mL might be a good to make it similar to what kz Coral snow looks like.
How often do you dose?

My first time dosing this was yesterday, today my water was the clearest it's been since I started this tank over 6 months ago. For now I'm going to dose it 2-3 times a week.

It just looks like someone stirred up a ton of super fine sand. No negatives except a cloudy tank for a couple of hours.
I still use it once a week or so. Visible difference the next morning. A 5 lb bag is going to last a lifetime.

Wait - just in case I misread - is there an argument that fine chalk could actually be used by coralline incorporating it into its matrix?
Could it be a vehicle for collecting dissolved organics, not for export through a skimmer, but for assimilation by living organisms? Kind of like a shopping cart of yummies where the cart ends up being used to build too...
Basically, particulates can reduce light penetration. So coalescing then into a larger "food particle" improves light penetration for photosynthesis, and calcification while simultaneously providing a meal...
I realize that calcification needs free Calcium ions most of the time, but could fine powder Calcium carbonate be "assimilated" rather than synthesized occasionally?

Finely ground calcium carbonate seems to act as a flocculant. It might tend to remove a fair amount of calcium and alkalinity from the water by acting as a source of nucleation sites. I don't think it'd add any to the water. Even as a very fine powder, not much can dissolve, since most tanks already are in supersaturation.

I was looking at the calcium powder collecting dissolved organics and making a food source that 1. allows more light 2. collects food for corals to consume 3. provides small calcium carbonate particles for assimilation (not synthesis)
