La Jolla Cove San Diego Seeking Buddy

Hi Folks,

I'm a newly Certified Open Water Diver and will be visiting San Diego this coming weekend. I live in Alabama and my company is opening a branch in San Diego so I'll be back and forth over the next 6 months or so helping out with that.

It looks like La Jolla Cove is a great place to Dive and/or Snorkel. Everything I've read says that it's a great place for beginners and experienced alike because the water is very calm and all the good stuff is usually found between 15-30 feet with a max depth of about 45 feet. It's suppossed to be absolutely teeming with life too.

Can anybody speak from experience?
And are there any good dive shops close by to rent equipment?

I was thinking about taking a guided tour but thought I'd post here to see if there are any of you San Diego locals out there that might want to get together occassionally when I'm in town.
(and don't mind the fact that I'm a new diver). If anyone's interested, PM or e-mail me.

Hi,

I would recomend checking out scubaboard.com. There is a very good socal section in it. I have not done much diving down in San Diego but I diver regularly up in LA and Ventura. The water out here is starting to cool off right now but diving is still good just have a good wet suit. Also that group has a monthly dive all up and down the coast. Hope that helps a little. You will most likly be able to find a few people willing to show you around on that site.

Before Dandy Don on SB gets you... welcome to Scubaboard. Watch out for the tech wenies (such as myself(sorta)) don't drink the cool aid (unless you want to) make sure you buy a back plate with wings, and a Apeks DS4 reg!
I get down to SD every now and then, Ive dove Scripps Canyon wich is a very nice dive (paid a lot of money for a boat ride to a shore dive spot though...) and Wreck alley which is my fav. Give me a blast on SB next time youre coming out, and we can hook up. PM me and Ill give you my phone number.

Cameron,

Not a problem and welcome to Scubaboard as well. I have not been posting much on there as of late since I have been out of the water for about a month due to work. But PM me there if you want and maybe I will see you at a wrinkles Dive. Everyone in the Socal forum is preatty cool. Now I just need to find someone to get a few dives in before I am off again for work and out in the desert for a month with no water to dive in. By the way my ID on there is the same as on here.
