LA lands True Personifers

I completely agree with you, rare and expensive saltwater fish are a niche market. However there are many, who don't necessarily post here or on any forums, that easily have the coin to drop on a $3k fish. For that matter there are several posters here on the site that can afford that fish but don't necessarily feel the need to tell people about it. Rarity rather than overwhelming beauty will push the sale of these fish.

Oh I am not suggesting they won't sell ;) Plenty of people drop 100k on classic cars that never leave their garage and that almost no one else gets to see.

Ok John, how are you going to arrange this one?
I know I'll see pics of at least one of these in you angel collection very soon!

I have been trying to ignore this thread, and ignore the fact that these fish are in Rhinelander. I have been trying to ignore the fact that I have wanted one of these for a long time. The true test is if I can ignore my declining bank balance (fish account, yes there is a fish account) and snag one. ;)

Thanks Kevin, for bringing these fish over!!

Fortunately, for my checking account, my tank is too small for any more fish. <phew> That was a close call!

I completely understand the desire to obtain a rare LIVE fish that you can admire in your own home. What I dont understand is why people pay so much for a rare painting that can be duplicated by any decent painter. Fish collecting is much more interesting IMO :D

"Ripped Off" is a poor choice of words.

People in Japan will pay big bucks for FL Ricordia; they're not getting ripped off, it's just the dynamic of the market.

You got it.

LiveAquaria will make a killing on these. And they know that they can price them high because people will pay it.

Oh really? What is LiveAquarias pricing? What did they pay for them? I assume you KNOW this, as you are saying they "will make a killing on these".

Hey, if you dont like their pricing, buy one elsewhere. Like at.......oh, wait, no one else is saying they have any. So, someone will have to pay a premium for a premium product. Its almost like....everything else on the planet.

This anti-DFSLA rhetoric is old, pointless, and inaccurate.

Exactly. Like people in Europe arent getting "ripped off" for paying more for a Yellow tang than we are.

I agree 100%

melanotaenia- It seems as though the majority of what you post is negative, lets all smile ;)

So where is your theory on Black tangs going for the price of gem tangs over the pond?

Supply and demand my friend. Those with the supply demand the price...

maybe it is because I am sick of every other post being about LiveAquaria...hey I got a great idea, lets just change this subforum to the "Live Aquaria Reef Fish Forum" and then everyone can all get along.

Sorry to upset all the LA proponents on the site.:wavehand:

In reality, I am going to stop posting on these forums. I have been posting on these forums for over six years now (longer than most of you). They no longer have any interesting learning threads on them. Such a shame from years ago when these forums were really about keeping reef fishes and not discussing every fish that seems to land in a fish store's list of "for sale"

This was my point of my earlier post. They know they are the only ones with the fish, so they know they can charge pretty much whatever they want (within reason).

How about just being proactive about this, ignoring threads that obviously bother you, and starting, or contributing to, threads you find topical and educational?

Im sorry to upset the blatant LA opponent with the threads even mentioning them. Its not like they are one of, if not THE biggest etailers in this industry here in the US, is it? Oh wait. Its not like they have mentioned theyve brought in some fish that have rarely, if ever, been brought in the US before, is it? Oh wait. Its not like this is a forum which caters to thousands upon thousands of participants, not just one who cant resist opening threads he KNOWs he wont like, is it? Oh wait. How dare we discuss them?! That have nothing to do with this forum!!

Yopu ahve been a member here for over six years, as you have stated. Yet, have far less posts than many of us. Does that make you better than us?

Melanotaenia, I'm not sure what you have against LA, but the fact is that there is a reason LA was able to obtain these fish. Most likely because they were willing to pay for them when they became available. While I don't know what they paid (and neither do you), I'm sure they weren't cheap, plus the shipping, etc, etc. As for what they price them at, I'm sure it will be at whatever the market demands them, which will allow them to make the profit necessary to continue to operate, and offer what I think is a great 14-day guarantee. There's a reason people pay for fish from them, you don't have to be one of them if you don't like. Try taking getting a business degree or just take a few classes in business or econ. I'm sure you'll get it......

If you don't like it, maybe you should move to North Korea. I heard they like your type up there (the one's that are against capitalism).

Oh, and congrats on killing your reputation on RC. Hope you have another email so you can sign up for a new "un-tainted" username when you need our help.

Anyway, back to the fish, I think they're beautiful and I am very happy to see some fish entering the US market that haven't previously! Very excited to see what the future holds. If KK is reading this, could we get some C. Interrupta???!!!! The True Personifer is a bit too large for my system.
